Help! I have a row of what we like to call "we don't know what the heck they are" in the garden. They are all from the compost heap; found these healthy little plants in the compost and transplanted them. Now, they are climbing the trellis like crazy and have huge squash like leaves and yellow blossoms. I thought they were squash at first, but the the veggies? fruit? at the base of the flowers are round balls and pale, and has lines from top to bottom. So, now, I'm not so sure what they are, but they sure are healthy. I'm going to try and post a picture shortly, but meanwhile, does anyone have a clue what this might be? I thought cantaloupe (or other melon) or maybe pumpkin but I can't find any photos of baby ones and I've never seen any either. I thought that baby pumpkins were green but I'm unsure of melons. Thanks for the help!
