Ordering Fruit trees and grape vines

From Burnt Ridge Nursery in Washington state. I researched them on Daves Garden watchdog and they checked out ok. Prices seem good as well as reasonable shipping.

I'm ordering 3 grape vines, 2 different pear trees (the one's they rec for this area, 2 different cherry trees, an apple (granny smith) as I have an established apple (that was here when we moved in, but has never fruited). And blackberries, which I know will be fine here.

So my question is when is the best time to plant these? is now ok?

As soon as you get them! It actually might have been better to have already had them in the ground, but you can't change that now. Just make sure to keep them properly watered this year.

Slow, deep watering is better than quick, shallow, frequent watering. Check the soil to see when you need to water. Don't let the soil dry out below an inch or two. Check the rootball and the surrounding soil if not planting bare root.

I have very little idea about what happened to your trees and vines. Maybe others will. Is there a possibility of drought or any sign of pest or disease problems, other than "moles"? Moles are very unlikely to damage grape vines. Voles are another story. You might want to pursue that possibility. Have you checked to see if the roots have been eaten away or the crown is damaged? Are there any signs of vole activity around your fruit trees? Voles can girdle even an older tree.

Are they shorter in every instance? Not necessarily but most nurseries aren't going to pay to ship a 6 or 8 feet tree. You can buy a 6-8 feet tree locally and probaqbly as cheaply when you add the cost of shipping. Now, let me suggest you do a search for Ty Ty Nursery. You probably don't want to order from them. Understory plantings will compete with potted trees, but they may still be desirable for a number of reasons, including: aesthetics weed suppression nitrogen fixation multiple yields, rather than single yield attract beneficial insects Mint aggressively commandeers water supply and can quickly take over a pot, so would not be my first choice. I have purslane growing under moringa and have to cut back the purslane regularly, or the moringa starts to show stress. I've grown malabar spinach as a vine up small trees with no problems. Chives, strawberries, clover, oregano would be my first choices.

About berries... here are a couple web sites that will give you tons of valuable information from OSU and U of Arkansas. If you plan to plant more trees next year, or perhaps this fall, you might want to look at Vernon Barnes nursery just north of you in Tennessee. They don't have a web presence, and they don't have a huge selection, but if they have something you want they are really cheap, and I have been happy with what I've gotten from them. If you search on the name you will see that most everyone who has bought from them and posted their opinion have good things to say.

I don't think I'm related to them, but you never know!

As fate would have it, I left my computer at the point of entering in my credit card info and when I returned later, the order info was GONE, meanwhile I had researched varieties etc in more depth and have now decided that I will wait to get the fruit trees. The cherry trees probably wont make here (not cold enough) and the one apple I have has been fruitless for 4 years or more, one more season shouldn't matter. The grape vines are a good deal, they are only $5 each and they are 2 year old stock. And I plan to order some blackberries from them too, also decent price, for triple crown, 5 for $12.50. I will check out the place you mentioned too Chuck...All the better if they are kin to you ;)

I got a peach tree and grape plant from them. They did send them kinda early for my area. (had a little freeze damaage on the peach) but the peach as budded just fine and am still waiting on the grape. I would order from them again as they were very helpfull.
