If you don't give it plenty of light, it will revert back to green. I would give it as much light as possible, if the leaves burn, the newer ones will be more conditioned to the brighter light and be less likely to burn. It looks like it was not kept in bright enough light. You could cut it, but I would bury the roots, but leave the stem laying on the soil. Pin it if you must ot keep it anchored as the roots develop. It will be stronger as it grows and be a fuller plant because a new vine will come out of each node touching the soil. Give it something to climb right now as it's young, before it needs it as not to disturb the roots.

The purpose of the aerial roots is to grow down into the soil as the plant's stem gets a larger diameter and gets longer, to anchor the plant and allow it to climb. Cutting it would serve little purpose, especially if it has only the one leaf at present time.

Those roots should grow pretty quickly down to the soil line and bury themselves, but, you can speed the process by doing what Mentha said, bury the stem farther in the pot.

Your plant may have poor variegation for two reasons: either, again like Mentha said, it has never received enough light and needs more, or it may be a genetically weak example of the variegated Monstera. The variegation on these plants is variable. All have the gene for variegation, but whether it is well expressed in each specimen is another thing. If you give it more light and let it start to climb, so that the leaves will get larger as it goes up, you will give it the best chance to reach its full potential.

Would you believe someone traded this plant for a dozen or so Ledebouria socialis bulbs? I think I got a pretty good deal!

From what I understand, this was part of a larger plant that was kept outdoors, so yes, the variegation may have faded some, although It's been sitting in front of a south window since last fall, but with out much sun and a mountain of woods nearby, it will probably have to wait a little to start looking better "more" variegated and fuller as we move into spring and the sun goes higher up in the sky.

Ok, I will see if I can't help the ariel roots along and get them to go down into the soil. If I can't bend the stem without feeling like I'm going to snap it, I'll just let the roots grow down on their own.

In the meantime. lets hope for MORE light and warmer weather, this VERY cold weather is getting old!
