I actually dont keep my list up to date at the moment, I wanted to know if the different varieties of violets are edible, I have jerusalem artichoke rhizomes i harvested this month plus sweet italian basil also harvested from my garden, the one you use for caprisi salads, yum, I'll email you a more detailed list. for medicinal and culinary herbs like white sage that one came from my school garden as well as vine plants like passiflora incarnata I am interested in your, Solomon's Seal - Polyonatum multiflorum, Skirret, Yarrow, Red, Basil 'Lettuce Leaf' (if the violet varieties are edible i would love some of those as well!) - Stephanie

8/24/11 Gloucester County, New Jersey Although the above posts were done quite some time ago I've just seen them. I grew my Mina lobata in the Spring from seed. I have the vines in many locations in my gardens. Gorgeous lush plants.....not a bloom to be seen yet. I spotted this forum while double checking to see bloom time. I've read they bloom from Summer to Fall. Well they might bloom from Summer to Fall somewhere, but not here. I can't even say I see flower panicles. A friend in the Denver, Colorado area is growing M. lobata and she has no signs of a bloom as of yet either. I'm assuming from the previous comments in this forum that this is normal for many areas. If anyone has them blooming in South New Jersey at this time please let me know. We are waiting for a magnificent show. Hope it is coming!

I have grown these for years in Northern IL, I love them because the "Hummingbirds" love them. They fight over them every year, it seems to be one of their fvorites. I have grown these in full sun and also in part shade. They do best in full sun, because the vines get taller and have more flowers. Be sure to save your seed every year. I call these mina vines for short. They do need a trellis and probaly grow best planted in the ground, I have never grown them in pots. Wish these were more popular, you would think people who love Hummingbirds would all grow them.

When I grew this vine in the past, it bloomed for me about the beginning of August. But I didn't get any seeds even though it bloomed profusely. There isn't any scent at all. This year I'm having trouble with my butterfly pea vine. Same as your Lobata vine, all great green growth with nary a flower to be found. another strange thing happened this year. ALL of my tomatoes have yellow shoulders that continue throughout the tomato. On the very edge of the slices there is a faint stripe of yellow. Someone told me its a nutrient thing.. Wonder what causes these problems.
