Thanks, galinas. We had a lot of clouds over the weekend so I thought that would give the plants some time to bounce back. They have perked up a bit, some better than others but the tomato plants have continued to curl up (the entire branch, not just the leaves), although one did set fruit. This morning, to my horror, I noticed that the edges of the leaves of several of the plants have black/brown edges. Is this just stress from all the rain or a bacterial infection? Should I pull these plants up so it doesn't spread?

I believe it is the heat. My tomato plants are loving it but my pepper plants were doing better on the days when the highs are in the 80's. Lately we have been having 90's and reached 102 yesterday-yikes! My pepper plants had a couple of the peppers that were just starting, just before they flower, get yellow stems and fall off. A couple of the leaves got a yellow color and were justing hanging on the plant. This happened a couple of weeks ago in our last 90 degree week. Then we had 70's and 80's for about a week and they started to form more peppers. Of course after they started we got back up into the 90's. I have found that with my tomato plants they are really growing better in the heat however I have to water them 3 times a day instead of once a day. My plants are on my deck though not in the ground. My pepper plants I have been needing to water everyday in this heat where when it is in the 70's I was watering them every couple days. Tomatoes love all the sun they can get and the pepper plants need the sun but the peppers themselves need a little shade from the leaves on the plant. I am no expert. This is my first year also but have been doing a lot of research to keep my plants happy.

I have a similar problem - I have 4 bell pepper plants that had flowers on them and the start of peppers, but now the leaves are beginning to wilt and turn colors and easily pull off - starting at the bottom of the plants. I looked up verticullium wilt and it sounds like it could be the culprit. But it says it's in the soil. This row of pepper plants is right next to a row of banana peppers which have been doing wonderfully well. Our garden is brand new this year - pulled up the sod and tilled up what was under it. We didn't test or do any additives as it was getting late in the season and we just wanted to get plants in the ground. Everything else in the bed (cauliflower, broccoli, brussel sprouts and bush beans are doing fine. Any thoughts on what could be wrong? (I am in NE Ohio)

I think I figured it out. The stone raised beds are new. I finally scraped back the mulch and noticed the soil was mud on the effected side nearest the bed wall. I think it was saturated too heavily after heavy rains earlier this week. No pest ... animals or insects. It perked up somewhat after the sun went down and o cleared the mush out and replaced with drier soil. Hoping that it continues to bounce back because it is looking great
