Kyle: The leaf bud on peach is in the same position as on citrus. You should be able to see the buds at the junction of the leaf petiole and the stem. Often there are three buds. The outer two are flower buds. The center one is a vegetative bud. If only one, then that is vegetative. Use the peach wood from near the base of a vigorous current season shoot. Cut the leaf petiole off just above the bud and leave the stub. Use that bud as your scion when T budding. I'd wait until August to bud and force it next spring. That's awesome. Its something I've been practicing as well. Although mine aren't that impressive. I grafted 5 buds onto my dads apple tree. The variety is unknown but 3 of the 5 are alive. They haven't grown prolifically but have survived. We are planning to top work the trees and give them their first pruning in late winter. We'll see how the buds do after the pruning

hmmm. No aphids? How about herbicides sprayed recently? Where did you get the mulch? Have you had your soil tested recently? If you can eliminate other causes and you're pretty darn sure it's lacking ca, you can possible get some water soluble ca online or from a hydro shop. Or 2 other ways to get Ca into the soil quickly--- One way is to take a large yogurt container, put an inch or 2 of DOLOMITE lime in it with a cup or 2 of white vinegar, give a good stir, let sit overnight uncovered, and then use the liquid(not the sediment that sinks to the bottom) at a rate of 4 TB/gal of water. Or... mix a pound of Ca(OH)2 (SLAKED lime) in five gallons of water, then let it sit over night and siphon off the supernatant w/o disturbing the dregs and use the supernatant to water with at a rate of 1 qt/sq ft or 8 oz/6' pot. In Squirrels defense, even though I don't like them stripping trees. Squirrels are smart if you measure smart by problem solving ability. I have watched them learn how to get to feeders that I have hung in the yard. We once had a tilt a wheel feeder. Corn on the cob on arms that rotated. I have watched them come running down the tree jump on one of the arms and ride it around and round until it stopped spinning. Some times it seemed they did it just for the ride.
