A new weapon against Japanese Beetle terrorism

Hey all,

The JB's are now into my garden hot 'n' heavy. I pick 'em off into a jar at regular intervals and always get at least 15 per trip. My pheromone trap I keep 50 or so feet from anything I care about is catching about 50 a day.

Wisconsin Public Radio has an hour and a half program called Garden Talk at 11 every friday. I was listening in yesterday and a guy called in and said he had lotsa luck catching the buggers by putting a bread bag on a yellow funnel and putting it right in the "hot spots". I had a "Why didn't I think of that?" moment. Since everyone talks about how bad, bad, bad pheromone traps are, I'm hoping these will work.

Here is one I put on the raspberries.

Here is one I put in the pole beans.

I "baited" them with a few I caught

They are a 99 cent radiator funnel inserted into a peanut butter jar lid and held in place by caulk tape. If they work, I'll be happy as a pig in mud.
