Try using Bt for your brassica crops. It's magic.

Bacillus Thuringiensis, commonly known as Bt, is an organic control for cabbage worms, which hatch into those pretty white moths, first devouring your brassicas.

"The great thing about Bt is that it only affects insects that are in the caterpillar stage. It consists of a naturally occurring bacteria that is deadly to cabbage worms. Once they consume a part of a plant treated with Bt, the worm will stop feeding and shortly thereafter it will die.

Bt is usually sold in a liquid form which is mixed with water and sprayed onto the foliage of the plants that are under attack. This organic product is safe and can be applied right up until the time of harvest. Bt works and offers complete control over many types of caterpillars."

Hi, Ladybugsmom. We have the same issue with the cukes. The male and female flowers keep popping up at different times making it hard to even hand pollinate them!

Wonder if it is due to the weather...

Zukes that have poor or no pollination very often look much like BER has taken them. More often than not, it's a pollination issue. It can be maddening that the male and female flowers don't open on the same morning. That's why I like to have other members of the Pepo species around. This year I have Zukes, Patty Pans, and Delicata. Funny, my zukes and patty pans refused to put out any male blossoms for a very long time, and the Delicatas haven't started blossoming until just recently. So I've still had sporadic pollination.

so, "tcstoehr" it seems as if you're saying that you can pollinate with other kinds of zukes? because i do have other kinds, but they're only just now (like the last few days) sending up any flowers at all!

yep, i did think it was BER at first, and got some lime, but felt to do a bit more research before applying it.

Yes, all Zucchini can cross pollinate. In fact, all members of Curcubita Pepo can cross pollinate. This includes zukes, scallops(patty pans), acorn, delicata, spaghetti and quite a few pumpkins.
