Can grafted plum tree go wild if overfertilised?

This inquiry is an extension to the one I posted yesterday under "Japanese plum ...".

Sorry for this duplication but I am afraid the subject in the previous request has not been properly worded.

The actual question is:

A one year old Santa Rosa plum tree with long narrow leaves was planted in the open ground in the early-mid summer. At the end of summer it got overfertilised and produced massive growth of big very broad leaves. Is this the sign of the grafted tree going wild?

Is it possible for a grafted tree to go wild?

Thanks,

Phil
