Hey there!

This may be a stupid question, but what variety of moon and stars do you have?

The purple rind version only has pink flesh, but the green rind version has two types: one with pink flesh and one with yellow flesh. I've seen the yellow fleshed variety coloured anywhere between a creamy white to a deep yellow when ripe.

I'm sure it is a long shot, but I'll cross my fingers and hope that you have the yellow variety!

I have always thought the 'time' to pick a melon (or winter squash) is when the stem holding the fruit on the plant turns dry and the melon 'slip off' the plant when you give it a little tug. Not sure if this helps any. My moon and stars watermelon plant has green leaves with yellow spots, like the fruit should.
I have a question for melon growers out there- I live outside of Austin, TX- we've had terrible heat for 45 plus days (over 100) and my melon plants look great, and have tons of male blooms, but only 1 female flower so far- it set a tiny melon but now after about 1-2 weeks of ping pong ball size, it is turning brown. Any ideas? Is it just too darn hot? Would a different variety do better?

Well mine is more of the creamy white color. I did taste it and the melon wasnt very sweet. In fact it tasted and looked mostly like inside a cucumber. The taste was somewhere in between a honeydew and a cucumber, but it just wasnt that sweet. Maybe it was ripe, it just didnt look what I thought it was suppose to look like. thanks brandon

Most take 90-100 days or more, has it been that long??

Driftwood, if the plant isn't big enough, or the female wasn't pollinated well, it can abort. I don't think it's a heat thing unless the entire plant is stressed... watermelons usually love hot weather.
