try it all and see what you like best. everyone will do it differently. it will also depend if you eat it raw or cooked. with big stems like the stem leading up to the head, you can skin the stem and eat the inside. really super good and tender if the hard outside is skinned off. so experiment around and report back here on your results.

Definitely sounds like rose slug. In most cases, after a couple weeks, the good bugs come along and eat 'em up, so you don't really need to do anything as drastic as use Bayer 2-in-1. Most of us either hand-squeeze them or pick them and toss them into the grass away from the rose. Seriously, the good bugs usually finish the job for the rose gardener, so the Bayer isn't needed. Besides, the Bayer 2-in-1 kills off all bugs, both the good and the bad bugs, and not just the rose slugs. (Don't use the Bayer 3-in-1 either--even worse!). Kate

Have you seen any worms on yours, boncrow66? Since I've had this problem in previous years without seeing any, I figured it was something tiny or a night feeder and was surprised to actually see of few of them this weekend. I googled green worms on roses before I posted, but really couldn't tell...maybe tobacco budworms...I grow a lot of nicotiana. I always have bug holes in the leaves of my flowers...nicotiana, cleome, angel's trumpet, coneflower, milkweed, etc, but holes in leaves really don't bother me...would prefer bugs/worms don't eat my rose buds, though.

I have Brussels sprouts that never matured and cauliflower that never produced heads this spring. I just left them in the garden to keep growing, along with the broccoli, red cabbage, white cabbage (I did harvest heads from these). Not sure about their quality this time of year, but if they are not bitter, would these all be good candidates for canned greens, or is it off to the compost pile? Leaves are very abundant! I see from comments above many folks like to eat brassica greens fresh or freeze, but canning wasn't addressed, and it looks like most comments were in regards to spring harvesting of leaves, from what I can tell. would someone also please comment if it is better to start a new thread or to comment on older threads like this when our questions are related? I apologize for not knowing the Houzz etiquette! Thank you.
