Sorry... there was an issue of Garden Gate magazine that had directions on how to train a fountain butterfly bush as a single trunk with the weeping branches from the top. It was really pretty. Does that help :)

Hi, I am new to this forum.
Can you tell me the difference between a regular butterfly bush and a fountain butterfly bush?
I have many butterfly bushes that are light purple, dark purple, and white in colour.

They are two different species of the genus buddleia, the purples, yellows and white are species davidii and fountain is alternifolia. I have never seen seeds offered of the fountain one BUT Mountain Valley Growers offers it as plants for less than $4.00, and High Country Gardens for somewhat more. Regular butterfly bushes can also be trained into standards. I have two that I started as cuttings last fall and trained this summer and they look quite nice. Not the same I know, but possible.

Thank You for the information spiderwoman. I checked out the High Country Gardens website, and I could not resist ordering a few! I am an avid butterfly bush collector, I have many many of them planted here on our property in Delaware and also many of them planted on our property in West Virginia.
