Burpee Butterbush winter squash pollination.

Can butternut squash be pollinated from another type of squash and not change the fruit on the vine? My butternut squash got off to a slow start, but they are finally grow strong now. The problem now is, that all the female flowers are starting to open, yet all the male flowers are still green, not opening. I thought I saw online that you cross pollinate zucchini and summer squash and you would not change the fruit on the vine. You would however affect the seed. I have hybrid summer squash so I can't save the seed anyway. Does anyone know if I can use the pollen from my zucchini or summer squash to pollinate the butternut squash and still have it grow normal?

Has anyone else grown the butterbush variety? According to Burpee, each plant produces about 4-5 fruit. Each on of my plants has at least 12 female buds per plant, and more growing each day. If they all grow, I will be overloaded with squash come harvest time.

Thanks,

Paul
