Could they be the milkweed longhorn beetle?

I don't see the black triangle, but they are . . . um . . . in pairs. ;-)

Is there any chance you could take a picture and post it?

I'm sure you know that anything we say without a picture is just a guess. I love trying to ID bugs and often use this site. The link takes you to 13 pages of various beetles that are orange, and several of them have dark spots. The milkweed assassin bug is one of them. Maybe you can find your insect there and decide whether it's a pest or not with further research. If not, a picture would be very helpful.

Sounds like Harlequin bugs to me. They really like any brassicas - kale, broccoli etc. They are sap suckers - the damage makes the leaves look pale and splotchy.They lay their eggs under the leaves - look like little rows of rootbeer kegs - white with dark band around the tops. There is no organic solution to the little ba$%#*#s so its squish and kill time.

I think I might know what you have. Are they harlequin bugs? I have them all over my kale and just started killing them after all that I read on the web. They create yellow spots all over and the kale is less healthy, as you can see in the photo.
