Why would you not want to water them? You haven't been? They need regular watering. Onions are tied to day length so they will continue growing until well after the equinox 21st of June when the days begin to shorten. Harvest is several weeks after that but you keep watering them until the tops break and lay over - they will do it all on their own - and begin to brown and shrivel and the neck dries out, then you can pick them.. Judging from the oic, I think, NOT YET. The stems are still standing upright. Therefore, the bulbs are still growing. When the stems collaps and the neck gets soft and seems to dryiny up, then there is no colaboration between the leaves and the roots.Then is the time to harves. My yellow ones have almost reached that stage right now. I am waiting for the ground to dry up (after a heavy rain) then I will harvest them. I have already harvested my Texas Sweets

i've planted copra 4" on center and they were round, i now plant 6" on center for larger onions. are you sure you received the right onions? ammuming that you did, you say you tilled the soil over and over but has the soil had compost or manure added to it? soil needs organic matter not just tilling. also is your soil rocky? now is a good time to add manure and shredded leaves since you won't plant until spring. never add fresh manure to soil you are about to plant or that has plants growing in it as the salts will burn the plants. the exceptions are rabbit and llama manure. tom

those are pretty onions! I bought a bag of vidalia's recently and they are so good, my husband loves to just eat them sliced up raw, but I love them sauted in a little olive oil, they are as sweet as candy. In fact I just decided what I am making for dinner LOL Potatoes obrien with some of those sauteed onions added and some sliced up smoked sausage, topped with a little melted shredded cheese. Oh yes!
