Eggplant Devouring Pests

rustycage

I'm hoping someone else has run into the same problem and has some possible solutions.

I picked-up a four pack of eggplant seedlings from the local nursery just over a week ago. Everyday when I check on the plants I notice these tiny little black beetles that hop when I disturb them. They don't seem to bother any of my other plants, but they have badly pitted the leaves of all four eggplants. Everytime I water, I knock them off the leaves and crush as many I can, but the next day more are back.

Anyone know what these pests are and what is the best/safest why to get rid of them? They are tiny so I'm not sure taking a picture of them would help anyone recognize them.

Thanks,

rusty
