Deer have ruined my squash plants... Grrr

Jeff B.

I've been working in the garden off and on all day, and wet inside to make my dinner... Well, when I came back outside I get to my garden and see my two huge squash plants and zucchini turned on their side, leaves lying on the ground. About that time I hear the deer jumping out our perimeter fence. It makes me wish I had a rifle.

I tried putting in small 1x2"s and making stakes to hold them up, but only managed to get one of them off the ground sort of. The other is just too big and cannot figure out how to stake it properly.

Will the squash grow itself upright and be okay? The main roots are fine and were not disturbed too much. Or should I figure out how to get it up off the ground?

Thanks!
