I haven't visited this forum in quite a while and I really enjoyed catching up on all of the posts and pics I've missed. Guess I have to make this a regular stop again for my daily garden picture fix. I have around 400 pics in photobucket sitting around doing nothing so I figured I'd post my best of.

Oh thanks you guys for all the responses! My roses - OH I MISS THEM! I used to have boquets all over my house - the spring and fall flush were amazing! I have been cutting back the few I have all week - they grow HUGE so fast - got a huge thorn jammed in my thumb yesterday and had to dig it out. It still hurts!! Ok - the tomatoes - so I should give up on the heirloom idea and grow Celebrity and Roma's - right?? I have never really, really canned anything - but I saw it done when I was a kid and I was thinking we could handle it - lol - but freezing sounds so much easier! I'd love some more info on that too. In the past - I had flower beds that I created "lasagna garden" style - as far doing tomatoes - it's too late for me to do that so hmm... How many plants do you guys think I need to get a decent amount of fruit? I just want to stop or at least reduce buying canned tomato sauce, diced tomatoes and all that jazz to cook with ... it would be great if I could pull out my own jar or frozen bag of stuff - lol! Even if I have to give it up for this year and just have four or five plants - some tomatoes are better than none!! Heather

Not looking to have many features with our build. Do not live in a subdivision where I would need drawings and approval of a HOA. We live in rural area with little need for major landscaping. Some type of firepit would be nice. What I have is a area approximately 40x65 to sandwich our pool into. This area being between our house and our old workshop. Just built a new 40x50 shop. Our plans are to build a pool and then convert the old shop to a pool house. With restroom, kitchen and seating area. With large french doors looking out to the pool. Will also need to install a fence around the new pool. Anyone else use gunite to build walls around pools for fencing?? Thanks

So what was the solution to the problem, Charmo? It had to be in the mixing and thickness of the thinset, right? A lot of us are new to mosaic, and isn't it great to have the resources here to ask questions of? I've made some really good friends here. Everyone is so helpful. Also, I just stumbled into all the videos on stained glass and mosaicing on UTube this week. Oh, my gosh. How fun to be able to watch someone DO some of these things we've thought we'd never learn to do. I'm glad you "got" it! We'll look forward to your pictures!

I love the dwarf conifers and maples, WOW! I just viewed a website about dwarf varieties but I have seen very little offered in local nurseries. I live on the North Shore did you buy anything in our area? Anyway i love all of it. The fountain is fantastic.Share more often.

Ladyslipper1, alot of my conifers came from Rich's Foxwillow Pines in Woodstock Illinois. It's probably your best bet for a "local" nusery that carries unique and dwarf conifers. Check out Coenosium and Gee Farms for mail order sources. Thanks for the positive response, I really appreciate it. Dan

Wondering if the japanese maples will grow in my area - we have very heavy, clay soil - live in the flats at the base of the Loess hills - I would be willing to amend the soil for these beauties

Sorry, I haven't checked back in a while. Thanks for all of the nice comments. Nillarita, I have heavy clay soil as well. Most of my plants are planted in burms, raised stone beds or ammended beds. I don't know exactly where you're at, but I've had good luck with Japanese Maples for about the last 7-8 years. Both, the tree you mentioned is Acer shirasawanum 'Aureum' (Golden Full Moon Maple).
