Help with posting seed list

I am hoping someone here can help me get my seeds for trade posted correctly. I have listed a couple of hundred and they are not showing up right. When I search for a seed that I have a link like this http://members.gardenweb.com/members/exch/data/seedtrade/ellie-gardner:Hosta%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20Sieboldiana/ but when I click on it nothing is there. If I go into my profile it is showing my list, my email, everything looks right. I have emailed the webmaster for help now 2x, but no help. If anyone has any ideas on what to do, please email me at secretgarden_wa@hotmail.com

Well hun, all I can say is that when I look at your exchange page it looks fine....a very long list and alphabetized....is that all you were needing?

Hi Ellie,

I too can see your list just fine, but see what you are saying.

You Hosta Sieboldiana on your seeds available for trade.

If one does a Search Lists for who has Hosta Sieboldiana seed for trade, your name should come up. Instead of your name being listed, it shows as ./data/seedtrade/ellie-gardner:Hosta Sieboldiana and when one clicks on it, it takes you to trade page for 'data'.

Did you use any HTML coding when you input your list?

Would you be comfortable with copying your list to a notebook, or Word, and deleting your list at GW and then copying it back in? GW ususally does not respond to things like this, as it is more often than not, something the member can fix themselves...imho.

Feel free to email me if you would like some help with copying it somewhere, and deleting it, and then copying and pasting it back in.

Thanks for the info Angela, but whatever Amy has on her member page just barely begins to download on to my computer and then it is gone to a white page that says this member doesn't exist. Could be that whatever Amy has used for her graphic background has something on it that is being blocked by my computer's protections as well as several other people that I had try for me. this happens on both Macs and PCs This doesn't happen or appear on anyone else's member page This is what i get when I try to access Amy's member page Amy has e-mailed me about seeds, so things are fine on that part. have responded to all new posters. posting pics on your seed trade list

I agree that it is nice to see pics of things that were actually grown in one's garden. I prefer that there not be a lot of pics, or that the size (KB FILE SIZE) be kept small if they are included on one's trade page, being courteous to our members who are still on dial-up. I can sure remember those days. I prefer instead to link to the pics as I have done on my member trade page. Some are my pics, and others are to sites where the plant is sold, so it includes growing info as well. The one thing I don't care to see though is links to other gardening forums, as I compare that to going to a Weight Watcher Forum, and pointing members to recipes at a Jenny Craig Forum. Yes, Rachel, you are that one special newbie. What a nice wish list, and I think I can fulfill about 14 things on it, possibly with a couple of varieties of some of them, along with other seeds for building your trade list. You can see an optional URL link when you reply to your original post. Paste that URL in that area. Then type " my listing" in the Name of the Link box which is directly beneath the URL box. When you click " preview" you will see it before the final post.

Hi Ellie,

I looked into this for you, and it is caused by a bug in the gardenweb 'search lists' function. The exchange list search function is not working properly for members with punctuation symbols in their gardenweb names, i.e., creative.gardener and ellie-gardner.

For example, performing a ÂSearch ListsÂ for members who have daisy seed to trade does not return the correct results for the following members who have punctuation symbols in their names:

country-gardener
catherine-garden
creative.garden
ellie-gardener
margi-rita
mimi-grandma
yogi-gardener

Instead of the memberÂs name, followed by the seed name, the search function returns the following:

./data/seedtrade/catherine-garden:Becky shasta daisy (when I find out how to get their seeds)
./data/seedtrade/country-gardener:Daisy Gloriosa C=extra 07
./data/seedtrade/country-gardener:Shasta Daisy Alaska C= extra 08
./data/seedtrade/creative.garden:Alaska Shasta Daisy - Chrysanthemum maximum
./data/seedtrade/ellie-gardner:Bellis English daisy
./data/seedtrade/ellie-gardner:Thymophyllia Dahlberg Daisy
./data/seedtrade/margi-rita:coreopsis, pink cone flower, white shasta daisy, morning glory, hollyhocks, blue scabosia, & zinnias (mixed color).
./data/seedtrade/mimi-grandma:Shasta Daisy
./data/seedtrade/yogi-gardener:Shasta Daisy (G)

Clicking on the links for any of the above takes you to a trade page for 'data', a non-existent member. I.e., click on ./data/seedtrade/ellie-gardner:Bellis English daisy, and you will be taken to http://members.gardenweb.com/members/exch/data/seedtrade/ellie-gardner:Bellis%20%20%20%20%20%20%20English%20daisy/

This bug prevents tradelists for members with punctuation symbols in their names from being accessible via the search function. I have reported this to gardenweb and will make a post about it on the exchange as well. Until they fix it, I think your only solution would be to come back under a different name sans punctuation symbols.
