What is this and what should I do about it?
Comments (7)cut off the worst leaves.. and be done with it ... homeowners have the potential to be the greatest polluters on the face of the earth.. thinking there is a chemical solution for every slight problem ... i see no negative impact on the plants in the picture ... BES's are field/wildflowrs.. they are not foo foo .. and really dont .. in most cases.. need any solutions.. they live in the prairie ... to my non-scientific eye.. what you are seeing is a secondary problem to some insult to the leaf a few weeks back .... so there is nothing there but a damaged leaf.. for a fungus to come along ... any history of a hail storm ... a few weeks back??? .. just enough to break the leaf surface.. but not otherwise knock down the plant ???? look deep into the picture.. and a vast majority of the leaves underneath have nothing wrong with them... if it were a disease.. why isnt the whole plant effected???? and in that pic.. it looks like the largest oldest leaves are the damaged ones.... are the growth tips damaged???? what happened back when these were young??? just think long and hard ... before you resort to any applications... chemical or herbal.. or organic ... most of the time .. it just isnt necessary ... good luck ken...See Morei think my computer is about to crash, what should i do?
Comments (9)In your initial post you say you have left the computer switched on but it is frozen. Is that the state right now? If so you need to remove the left side panel and look at the fan on the motherboard to see if it is spinning. Perhaps this is as simple as the processor cooling fan quitting. The computer would quit to protect your CPU or processor from overheating. As you have a new computer on order perhaps we can assume this machine is a bit older. After checking the fan mentioned above switch off the computer, remove the power cord from the rear of the case and check the cooling fins underneath that fan. Are they full of dust and dirt? If so a can of compressed air will work wonders, be sure to place a finger on the fan to prevent it spinning wildly as you use the compressed air to remove all that crud. (Do this outside if it is particularly dirty, saves a lot of dusting afterwards) Your data is probably safe because the hard drive is probably still good to go. What ever happens you could use this as a wake up call and back up your data. Also if you have not already done it you should create a set of recovery disks - unless Dell provided them at purchase time of course....See Moreshould I buy these chairs? If I should, what should I do to them?
Comments (21)I agree with all of you: they're definitely Hollywood Regency. And I should recharacterize my own style, which is probably better said to be "*in* transition" rather than transitional. (: I do like clean-lined pieces, and our DR set is very Mission; the adjacent LR combines Mission and Art Deco; and our bedroom, where these chairs would go, is your basic Recovering Graduate Student/Random Wedding Present room. So funky/eclectic would fit in just fine there. And there's just something about these chairs... The room is a long rectangle. The half without windows is for the bed (not a bed per se, but rather mattresses on a metal frame) and the dressers, which are mismatched yard sale finds. On the other side of the room, I'd like to create a sitting/reading area next to the windows, with a gorgeous view of the mountains (by far the nicest thing about the room!). We got a red and tan handloomed Peruvian folk-art rug for our wedding, and that's what we'll use to set off the seating area. Also on that side of the room, framing one window, are some slender dark walnut modern-styled bookcases. And then the part I'd like to replace: a heinously ugly loveseat that a friend gave us, also on that side of the room. I'd much rather find some reading chairs and an ottoman than a loveseat anyway; the room's not that big, and the loveseat makes it a pain to open and close the curtains and shades. I agree these chairs don't look too comfortable, so they're probably not my ideal reading chairs. But they'd be good for draping the bathrobe or pulling into the LR for extra seating. I love the idea of velvet, and maybe even the box-pleated skirt -- hadn't thought of that, cool idea, thank you! I agree that they're great in a pattern, but I don't want lots of patterns clashing in my bedroom, I don't think. What would you think of a tan velvet on the back and the bottom of the seat, and then the top, round seat cushion in something like this: Here is a link that might be useful: I'd use this pillow cover to reupholster the seat......See MoreWhat are Mealy Bugs and what should I do about them?
Comments (0)Mealybugs are soft-bodied bugs that appear as white cottony masses. These pests are particularly fond of phaleanopsis plants. Adults are about 2-5 mm long and are easily seen by the naked eye. The first line of defense is to inspect plants regularly for them and signs of them as they lay their eggs in what appears to be a slight cottony residue. An adult female will lay 100-200 eggs that will hatch in about two weeks. Rubbing alcohol from the drugstore in a hand spray bottle is an excellent contact killer. Repeated applications are necessary as alcohol has no lasting effects. For serious infestations, some recommended pesticides are: Malathion 50% EC, oil sprays, or Marathon, 1%. Systemic pesticide applications often require a follow-up treatment to catch newly hatched eggs. Please remember to follow manufacturers recommendations to the letter as misuse of chemicals can cause irreparable harm to plants. Submitted by Rhonda Heide...See Morekellyrie
