Carolyn, so let me get this straight, you haven't actually had JMO? Oh, and thanks very much for the other oxheart suggestions - ! **** True, I have not grown nor tasted Jeff's Mystery Oxheart. But bcday, who has been doing my seed production for me for new heirloom varieties sent to me seems to like/dislike most of the same varieties that I like/dislike, so I trust her judgment on taste and performance. When I get around to sending my paltry list of 12 plant wants, down from the usual 500 before I fell in Dec of 2004, to gardenmama in VA, if I have enough room I could grow it, though. I'm blessed that gardenmama and bcday allow me to keep going re tomatoes which allows me to list the new ones in the SSE Yearbook as well as offering some of them elsewhere and also sending to those seed companies I trust and have had a long term relationship with seeds of what I think are exceptionally good /have historical significance, for their grow out trials. There's a LOT to like about THAT house!!!! :0) WOWSER! The ceilings are too rustic for my taste. I do like wood ceilings, but contemporary in style. The oriental rugs are to die for! White canvas covered furniture, benches....very NICE! Columns are cool, brick flooring is cool. I'm sure he'll make a hefty profit on the sale of this property! Thanks for posting it!

If you post in the California forum as well, local people may bring you plants (and others may mail them). You should decide and list what you'd like (at a high level - these kinds of vegetables or perhaps specifically drought tolerant sun plants and drought tolerant dry plants) or you may get a lot of water lovers and plants that don't do well at all in our climate although you'd like to foster sustainability (right plant right place!). People in other states don't comprehend that we generally see no rain from May through Nov - others ideas of drought tolerant may not fit so their time and money sending seeds would be wasted. Also, since you're about sustainability - best to include the disclaimer " *****DO NOT send plant cuttings, rooted pieces or plant material into California, it is ILLEGAL. CA ***** Dept of Ag: "Quarantines: .. It is unlawful to ship or transport any plant, cutting, animal, fruit or vegetable into California" unless it is from a company with phytosanitary certificates*****" . I did call them and get confirmation that seed trading is ok. There will be people who think they can kindly send you plants from outside CA trying to be generous -(nooo Mr Bill noooo!! - immediately toss them into a fireplace or woodstove). Even So. CA has bugs and micro-organisms we don't yet have up here. All that said - are you looking for low care drought tolerant perennials? (they'll need to be nursed for a year before being able to handle your summers) just food or spots of drought tolerant annual color too? I'll get something together - just point us in the right direction. Do you want folks to check UCDavis WUCOLS and only send low water use plants (hosta is a medium water use plant for instance, takes a few years from seed)?
