That looks like an awfully big pepper for a pretty small pepper plant. Sounds and looks like the plant has been rootbound for some time? That will prevent it from growing bigger, and eventually start fruiting. I would consider taking off the pepper, allowing the plant to focus on growing, now that it has all the space it needs for roots.

Yep, the Cayennes seem to get to full size quick and then just sit there. It takes a while to start seeing the red. The general consensus is that letting pods develop on immature plants will hinder its growth somewhat as the plant has to put a lot of energy into growing the pods. I am not sure where you live and how long your growing season is, but you can pick them now if you like. They do not have to be ripe before picking them. They likely won't have as much heat however. I think once you do pick them, you will see a lul for a day or two and then they will kick back into gear and you will start to see some new growth. Bruce

I got some cayenne peppers from a family member. Some are green and some are red. The green ones are hotter than the red ones. I don't know if this is because the red ones are so sweet and that's offsetting the heat some or what, but the green ones certainly burn more.
