There's several types of dwarf rootstock coming available but all are still in testing in most areas but you could still acquire one of those for a true dwarf root system

Turtleman is correct and they sucker badly. Tbeir value is that they are generally the most dwarfing and are very hardy. And a cheap seed grown rootstock for a nursery like Miller's to grow in mass quantities.

I "suckered" for several of these from Millers. They have extreme scion overgrowth seven years later, the stock trunk is half the diameter of the scion trunk now (the ones still alive that is; all the peaches died only the plums are left). And yes they do sucker badly. The plum trees are still healthy so I am hoping they will last awhile longer.

If you want a true dwarf peach try Pumiselect rootstock. Otherwise just get a standard peach and summer prune it. Peaches are tolerant of huge amounts of pruning.

Thank you all, apprears my intuition was right. Mostly I'm thinking of Redhaven and Belle of Georgia. The site has deep, fertile soil, well draining, pH 6.8, water available, northern zone 6 but in a low spot (sun won't rise until about 8-9 am in spring leading to longer frosts and moist foliage). Can't have it all.
