Burdock and Alpacas

Burdock and alpacas don't mix....

Any tips for getting rid of the mattes? Cutting them with scissors works, but it's slow going, and I wonder if there's another tool to speed things up.

I've got three alpacas, and have just had them for a few months. My plan is to have them sheared, so I don't have shearing gear, but I wonder if there are a couple relatively inexpensive tools that will help with maintenance?

    Is burdock like thistle?

Those things get in our animals hair. No real trick to getting them out... we just tug the hair away from the seed & then go on our yearly thistle killing spree.

Burdock is similarly obnoxious to thistle. Not as sharp, but more prolific, in my experience, and more difficult to eradicate.

When we were young, my sister made a 'crown' out of burdock burrs and put them right on her head (she also did that with a windup train, and it didn't go well). My mom had to cut them out of her hair. Except using vegetable oil to make a huge mess, I'd guess you'd have to cut them out.
