those are great ideas! I've also had good success making ornaments in the form of various farm animals using sculpy clay+paint. Granted it's not made from farm products but the theme is there :) I've also made custom pet ornaments, if you have a friend or relative you can create an ornament of their personal pet to make it extra special.

You can also make "bread-dough" ornaments and figures, although I'm not sure of the recipe/procedure.

The semi-ubiquitous painted rock is also a possibility, if you have a source of smoothly rounded rocks.

Another possibility is making picture frames, boxes, etc. out of old barn boards. I've also seen frames with a woody theme made from leaves or bark, hot-glued to an existing frame - try thrift shops. Following the woody theme, you could, with access to fairly straight, 2-inch thick saplings, make walking sticks. Smoothed and finished, either carved or not, they seem to be popular at many of the craft shows I've been to lately. If you have them, greenery, cones, berries, etc. can go for wreaths or swags, which you can either make yourself or just give the materials for them do do thier own decorating. If you do them, you would have to buy the florist wire, but it's not too expensive.

If you have basil or other herbs growing, you can make flavored vinegars - you might have to buy attractive bottles, though. Other culinary ideas, involving a bit of cooking and/or bottle purchases would be tomato sauce and pesto, maybe substituting walnuts for the more-expensive pine nuts. Again, needing an attractive jar or bottle, dry ingredient mixes for muffins, including the eggs with the package, so the recipient could cook them later.

How about wreaths,swags from things on farm,just a few,pine cone wreaths,I even made a wreath with wild rose hips.It was beautiful,wild grape vines.Dried flowers,the tall grasses,even corn husk wreath.

Great ideas here...also, if you have poultry, you could collect some nice feathers are create beautiful ornaments with them. I use some every year as package decorations in place of or in addition to bows. They especially work well with other natural objects like small pine cones, dried sprigs of herbs, etc.

I have a hank of my horse's tail hair taken from her before she passed away at the age of 33, I'm going to make a hatband out of it. :)

You could make small 'breakfast baskets' that include some of your birds' eggs, a loaf of fresh-baked bread (or muffins) and some preserves you've made. My sister always makes a hit every year by sending a Hickory Farm basket, that basket of ready-made food is a Godsend when you are running around shopping and decorating the tree. :)

I just remembered, my brother got, when in AZ, a lovely key chain/holder, with a "tail" of braided horsehair, black and white, about 6-8 in. long, which I covet! The split rings can be had at Lowe's, etc. in packages of 5 or 6 for a few dollars, or individually, for not too much. Add a small snap or one of the small "carabiniers", so you can keep it on a belt loop or the handle ring on a purse when out of the car, and you've got an attractive and useful present.

Thanks a lot! Those are certainly some great ideas! I have plenty of grapevine to make wreaths with, as well as pinecones and rose hips. My critters consist of cats and dog (pretty useless for byproducts there), pygmy goats (also can't think of anything they produce), chickens and horses. As far as plants and such, I have a good deal of woods with Poplar, Oak, Walnut, Gum, tons of Sassafrass (tea, maybe?), some scrawny holly trees (could use some for wreaths), grape vines, honeysuckle, wild roses, and of course, pasture grasses. There's also some English Ivy, I thought I could pot some of that up and wrap it with a Christmasy fabric... maybe add a twig trellis. Keep the ideas coming!

I was going to suggest twig trellis' but you beat me to it. I belong to a gardening group and one member makes twig trellis, and those are coveted by the other members.

bookmarks, note cards or other paper products with dried rose petals, homemade cookie, brownie or soup mix in canning jars. If you have kids they can decorate used store egg cartons to fill with eggs as gifts. winter bird feeders with pine cones, sticks, peanut butter & seed(there are recipes online), do you knit, crochete or sew? I'm taking a knitting class for $8 @ my library so maybe I'll be able to make a couple of scarves. I make handmade christmas cards every year, I also make up gift baskets & I get most of the contents from discount stores & they usually only total $15-20 but I wrap them in shrink wrap & adding something I made & they are a big hit. I make cookies & chocolate some years too.

You can make fantastic planters out of dried gourds.

Clean gourd, and drill one or two holes where the cactus or other plant will go.

Fill with hot parafin and swirl around, then drill drainage holes in the bottom. This step is necessary so the gourd won't rot over time with moist dirt in it.

Plant it and if the gourd sits that's fine, or you can drill holes in the neck and hang it.

What about Compost Tea Bags? You could wrap it in a nice muslin, with a string, add instructions on 'brewing' and it would be a nice winter gift for people with indoor plants.

Its time to collect flower seeds now, store them in cute little containers labled with canning labels (add any planting instructions) give to gardening friends. Also my kids made pinecone bird feeders for my birdwatching parents by spreading 50% peanut butter/ 50% shortening on a pinecone, and rolling that in some birdseed or homegrown sunflower seeds. tie on some Christmas ribbon and voila. If you are really crafty a homemade birdhouse (gourd or otherwise) would go great with the pinecones.

I even took the long woody stems that are falling from black walnut trees and made star ornaments one year.Now that your plants need cut down for fall look for unusual seed stems,pods etc to add to swags or wreaths.

beat me to it, scrappyjack! I was going to say seeds. I collect seed every year from my gardens and save it to share around. All of my family has all the seeds and/or plants they want now, but I still give them to new friends and acquaintances.

I aslo press flowers to use for cards and gift tags. I buy cheap packages of cardstock and mixed paper (try Walmart or some craft stores). Kids love to do these too. We have some shape punches, glitter glue, etc. You can get fancy or not. The flowers are lovely by themselves.

Another cheap and easy idea that I love is a "quote basket" or jar, although it's not necessarily farm related. I save quotes that I like in a word document then print the pages. Cut the individual quotes apart (you'll have thin strips of paper with a single quote on each), curl the strips with scissors, and place them all in a basket, jar, or other container. The recipient can select a quote each day for inspiration or ponderance (of course, I sit there and read at least a dozen at a time!). YOu can change the quotes each year. Gave my mom one - she loved it and so did her friends.

How about jam, jelly, preserves, pickles??? Do you do any of these? They are always appreciated.

If you're into painting - how about rocks (already mentioned by dibbit) or driftwood? I collect neat pieces all summer and fall and paint them. Try to "see" something in the piece as you are selecting it. Kind of hard to explain, but I've done the head of a blue heron, several santa heads (round twig with pointed/bent end), a pointing finger, and several garden signs on just flat pieces. Oh, and a big "Santa greeter" for a friend - large driftwood plank painted with a santa that stands beside the front door.
