overnight eggplant seedling damage
Comments (7)I took a peek at the plants this evening. I didn't see anything bothering them when I went out but I did find one earwig on a carrot in the same bed so that's a likely culprit. Two years ago I had a major earwig problem and could not get any seedlings to survive. Sigh...I really don't want to fight that battle again. NONE of the things people always recommend did any good at all. I'll lug out the Sluggo Plus, but I'm not optimistic....See Moreanything eat eggplant flowers?

Comments (11)Earwigs are by far the biggest problem I have in my garden. They can be really hard on plants especially when they are young. I found that you can reduce their numbers but you never truly get rid of them. The best thing that worked for me was to place a damp towel on a hard surface like a tree limb or section of shaded concrete. After a couple of days turn the towel over and let the chickens ave a feast. This method has gotten the earwig population down to a point to where they don't do too much damage in the garden. I have to admit that a few years ago when their numbers were really high I had to sprinkle Sevin dust on my newly planted pawpaw seedling other wise they would have killed it....See MoreSomething is eating my seedlings and eggplant -- pics included
Comments (6)I always take walks at night about 10 or 11 in my garden when things are young. Go with a flashlight and you will find slugs and earwigs....the two can really eat seedlings fast. If you are not into sqeezing them with your fingers take some forceps or tweezers. Be quick with the pincher bugs (earwigs) they move fast. By going out at night you can see how bad the problem is and just acouple nights might knock them back so you won't have to spray or use powders. Sometimes my wife joins me holding the flashlight for a romantic evening of bug squishing!!!...See Moreanney
