Insect patrol: 1 good, 1 bad, 1 unknown

The unknown was a small brown moth or butterfly flitting from bean leaf to bean leaf, but I'm not going to worry about it unless I see lots of them.

The bad insect was a Mexican bean beetle on a melon leaf. It looks like they've chomped there before. Time to put down cardboard to snuff the weeds under the vines that I'm letting sprawl this year -- I just got enough to do the job yesterday. I also have a few holes in my bean leaves, not many, but I'm hoping they won't be overrun with the MBB since I planted 64 feet of pole beans and limas in addition to seven Crenshaw melon plants.

The good one was what I'm sure is a honeybee on a melon blossom. I don't think I saw one of them last year:
