Colorado potato beetles

I have never seen them as bad as they are this year. I planted 11 different varieties of potatoes, and some have been completely stripped of leaves. On those I cut off the stalks, sprayed with pyrethrin, and covered over with new mulch. Do you think they'll sprout again? Does anyone have any beetle advice or success stories with these beasts? Last year I kept ahead of them with a strong spray of the hose every few days. I've been hand picking them, but it's way past that now. There are tobacco fields in the neighborhood, so I wonder if that has something to do with it too. Advice?
