How has the economy affected your landscape business/

Times have certainly changed in this industry! The financial downturn has impacted the landscape industry in general pretty hard. The contractor I *used* to work for was doing big, high end jobs 2 years ago. Now, he's doing whatever he can to stay afloat. The big design plans that were frequent dried up. There is still work but it's slim pickins' out there.

How has the economy impacted YOUR landscape business? Are you going to do things differently this coming season than in times past? New strategies? What direction do you think this industry in general will take? Are you seeking out new markets or niche's to fill the voids? Have you watched many companies fail in your area as a result?

Personally, I believe it will take a long time for it to recover and even longer to prosper again. The main revenue sources that homeowners used to fund these types of projects have dried up (home equity and investments) to variable extents and I suspect they won't return for awhile, if ever.

What is your outlook for the coming year?
