I ordered this from Evergreen seeds for my grandson to plant, but he only wants to plant flowers this year.

I can do 3 trades of 50 seeds each.

have veggies and herbs too!

Anyone else order Baby Blue Jade Corn from Hirt's? I ordered it for 2008 and got a very strange result. 7 foot tall stalk and popcorn like ears. I thought maybe it was cross pollination or maybe I had mixed up my seed with Hopi Blue so I reorder new seed this year and had the same results. Cobs look NOTHING like the picture. This year I planted only this type of corn on this plot so there was no chance of cross pollination. I've grown this corn for several years and never had a probelm until 2008. Anyone else have this problem?

Amaranth seeds can be used for sprouts, and can be ground and used as flour. They can be used in soups, boiled. They pop when you bite them when boiled. It can be used as a hot cereal like cream of wheat, kind of. The taste is good. The leaved are edible. It can be cooked like spinach or used as a spinach substitute. The young leaves can be used in salads. It is a relative of pigweed, which is also edible. It grows well. This is my firsr time trying it. The tropical melon is a gala type, whatever that is. Perhaps it is like a honeydew. Mine are growing basicly in sand with about 6 inches of oak leaf mulch. I've never seen one before, so I can't tell you what they taste like. Good, I hope. I'm expecting about 5 of them. I'm just waiting. . . .

Uses for corn shoots and baby corn

Good in stir fries. They can also be sauteed in any seasoned butter/oil/Italian dressing, diced in salads, etc. Basically it is used like any other leafy green vegetable for the shoots but the younger/smaller the better. Once they get more than about 2" tall they get tough and chewy. The baby corn can be used in most any Mexican or oriental recipe. Dave
