Claudia, by now you probably already know this, but it sounds like what you have are not Pekin ducks, but Muscovy ducks. Also, they will only lay...no more than once a day, if that. So, no way could she have laid 11 eggs in the last week. Are you CERTAIN the other duck was a drake? If it was, you can bet they are fertile. Is she sitting on them? Pekins usually won't bother laying in a nest. The eggs are more like an inconvience to them, I think. Mine would leave them on the edge of the pond! Never once found two of her eggstogether. Genny, you may want to get some false eggs for her. Not everyone will agree but I feel it encourages birds to stop laying and go broody when there is something left in their nests. You can likely find some plastic Easter eggs this time of year in a dollar store. Weight them with sand so they are about as heavy as a duck egg and glue or tape the halves together. When she goes broody, you take back the plastic eggs and give her the real ones. Don't worry about keeping the numbers the same... birds can't count. My American Buff goose went broody just a couple of days after my sister put one marble goose-sized egg in the nest. It was a bit of a joke, because when I picked it up it was much heavier than a real goose egg and very smooth. I couldn't figure it out until I saw her laughing. LOL. Sisters! But it did the trick.

You have to start from the first day of incubation. Eggs are laid one a day until they are all laid, but not incubated until the last one is laid so they all hatch the same day. Sounds like the clutch is complete, as most lay 12-14. I would start the count from the day you saw her sitting on them for a while. She won't sit there except to lay the eggs until they are all ready or else the incubation will start. If you know the exact day she laid the last egg, that would be day 1.

Hi, I am sure there are others with far more experience than me, but I do have both chickens and ducks and have had them for a couple of years. As far as ease of raising, I can not say that there is an extreme difference.....both have their pluses and minuses.... I have Khaki Campbells and they are the more aggressive of my ducks... but not so much so that I would cease to have them. My chickens free range in an acre pasture so they are not hard either... they have an enclosed coop where they are locked up at night with feed and water...nesting boxes and a roost. The ducks have the same routine except they are cooped in free standing houses in a separated pasture area. We dug a pond and lined it for them but with just a few, a kiddy pool is acceptable..they are messy and the water needs changing often... a good quality feed is needed for either... as are vaccinations etc if you choose to do so... as for the eggs... there is not a noticeable difference in the taste of the eggs... a duck egg is larger of course and , at least to me, they seem to be richer in baking etc... my ducks seem to lay an egg about every other day while my chickens often lay daily... I can not suggest one over the other because I love them both.,... their antics, their personalities.... both are delightful...good luck to you with whichever you choose.
