I am trying to root the datura metel cutting again. I have compiled all the emails . I feel lucky to have found 8 folks, half with degrees in hort./or in the plant business, who have succeeded with rooting these....thx so much for your help:) So here's how I'm trying it this time: 2-3 inch cutting of new growth with just a few leaves which I cut in half to decrease transpiration. lightly dusted in .1 IBA planted in straight new vermiculite watered in with 2 c sterile water with 1 drop Super thrive misted with sprayer (water with capful hydrogen peroxide added) tented but opened 2 x day for fresh air bottom heat of 70 in shade could I be anymore tedious and persnickity about this working?? lol! Root darn it! I also packed my most careful seed packet ever- this one for Ball seed/Pan American seed co. to go in the mail tomorrow. From the pod of this plant. cross your fingers and toes on both the vegetative propagation ( for another co.) and these seeds working out:) karen

Yup...soaked them overnight in lukewarm water...and I made sure when I planted them that they were just lighly dusted with soil so that light could reach them but they say moist...I don't know...if that doesn't work I can always try spraying them with gibberic acid (I'll research it first but I believe that what they use to induce germination in the nightshade family.) There are benefits to having a fully stocked bio lab two doors down, like easily accessable plant hormones...i'd like to thank everyone who's respoded to my posts...another question: do you guys think I should mark the plants as poisionous (there are a bunch of other poisionous plants in the greenhouse but not psychotophically crazy-ass poisonous) or would that just draw negative attention to the plant? I just don't want anyone trying to use this plant recreationally (like there is such a thing) and me being held liable...Anyway,thanks for the warm welcome everyone... peace, nathan
