I am proud to say that in Zone 2, I am currently harvesting spinach, radishes, bok choy, swiss chard and peas (the spinach since late April). It took a lot of TLC though, fussing with row covers and the like.

A few bok choy, radish leaves only. Peas were held back by the cold spring but are growing. Onion and chive leaves. And of course asparagus.

We have been eating the Lettuces, Arugula and Spinach for a few weeks. Yesterday I harvested 2 peas and 4 radish. :)

Last year I didnt get anything in the ground until June 1st, so I am feeling pretty happy. Broccoli, Cabbage, and Romaneco are all just leaves, and we are all of a sudden having a heat wave (close to 90 yesterday). I am worried they will just bolt.

Tomatoes Peppers and Eggplant are going out today!

Been eating out of the garden exclusively since mid March. First there's the spring flush of overwintered Winterbor kale that goes on for many weeks. Second is the overwintered spinach followed by the first asparagus. By then its salad greens, bok choi, radishes, etc. I just let the asparagus go after 6 weeks because the peas are about to start. Strawberries are already finished too.

Asparagus is done, eating lettuce, spinach, scallions, radish. Peas almost there.

We have been eating (since mid April) carrots, lettuce, spinach, scallions, radishes, turnips, spring onions, bok choy, napa cabbage, romaine, head lettuce, potatoes, squash blossoms, zucchini and one tomato.

I love our high tunnels.

Zone 4WI, May 31st harvest. It may not be impressive to you southerners, but I am feeling pretty good about it. Mnny different lettuces, spinach, arugula, basil, mint, cilantro, parsley and a few radish.

Kids enjoying some baby Arugula......Since I didnt even plan the garden till a few weeks ago, I am happy.....Peas are coming along nicely. radish, carrots, beans, squash, corn are all just sprouting. Tomatos, peppers and cukes are about 1/2 in.

I've been slightly disappointed so far, but have managed a couple salads mostly of black simpson and arugula and mustard greens, as well as some steamed turnip greens. The peas are getting close. I had poor germination of my red lettuce and spinach. I planted the tomatoes about 2.5 weeks ago and unfortunately the weather was cool but they are growing quicker now with the heat the last week.

I've decided next year to sow some of my greens more densely in blocks instead in rows. I think I'll get more that way. I'm more into the tomato/pepper/eggplant/corn/beans/ and various squashes than the greens. 27 tomato plants this year.

Absolutely!

We've been harvesting kale, fava beans, snow peas, lettuce, basil, radishes, green onions, and baby salad greens. Oh, and my celery is still a little small, but I've started harvesting it a little bit at a time. The biggest outside stalks are like the inner stalks of a supermarket bunch of celery, but tastier and greener. We've also been eating carrot thinnings - aka *true* baby carrots - and we've picked 4 tiny summer squash that didn't get pollinated, and I hand-pollinated two yesterday so I should have some full size ones tomorrow.

The baby ate my four little ultra-early tomatoes, but with luck I'll have more ripening soon.

For the OP. Have you tried Bok Choy Cole Slaw? I like it almost better than regular cabbage.

Plenty of green garlic, scallions, and thyme. Everything else is still really tiny! I decided to direct-sow everything this year, and it's been germinating and growing very slowly. Peas are flowering, and we should be eating lettuce and spinach thinnings by mid-June.

Jay, I'm jealous. We've been discussing high tunnels and season extending techniques.

Nobody mentioned parsnips! We dug those as soon as the ground thawed but I think I will mulch next winter. One serving for 2 of overwintered spinach. The perennial herbs are lush and available. Also, can I count the winter squash from 2010 that kept well into 2011. We recently had probably our last Confection (seed from Johnny's) and I think I have one or two more long neck butternut types from Baker Creek.
Ive nibbled on spinach but the thinnings are ready for salads.

Zone 5: lettuce, spinach, peas, radishes, green onions, green garlic, galic chives, chives, and chive blossoms, with kale and turnips about to come. With 90 degree weather in the offing, spring harvest is about over, but tomatoes are starting to blossom and one jalapeno pepper has a flower! That surprised me.

Well, here in western WA, it is STILL raining, and I am STILL wearing a sweatshirt! I have the feeling that spring is going to merge right into fall, skipping summer altogether. I'm not even sure that we've even hit our last frost -- my sister got a layer of hail just the other day, and was thinking when she drove into her yard, "What is all that white stuff?"

The peas, potatoes and carrots are planted, but that's about it. The blueberries are blooming but I don't see any bees. The tomatoes and peppers are getting lanky in the window of the spare room.

I'm in SC zone 7. My English peas are done, been eating them for about 2 months, then it got hot. I had my first mess of squash Friday and picked a bucket full today! The leftovers will go to my coworkers. I have a tomato turning a little pink, Early Girl, I sat my salt shaker next to the plant to get prepared.... ;) Finally had a good rain Thursday and everything jumped up, including the deer, they ate all of the new growth on my beans, trampled several sqaush!!!!! :(

All these responses just go to show that zone may not mean so much as weather.

I had a nice arugula salad with some radishes yesterday. I also picked the bok choy that was about to bolt. With all the rain we had in May in MA, planting has been slowed and now the heat is sending things bolting fast! I hope to have peas very soon!

It's fun seeing what everyone else is harvesting - all so similar. We've been eating romaine & leaf & butter lettuce, spinach, swiss chard, radishes, green onions and peas. Wish we were eating carrots & beets - planted them too late! Looking forward to the summer harvests!

Im in zone 6b/7 in se Pa. My lettuce is already done, the last heatwave has really made most of it bitter. But I am now picking snow peas, snap peas, shell peas, carrots, bush beans, Kholrabi, strawberries, spinach, mesclun, swiss chard and kale. I have cukes on the vines right now as well as tomatos, squash, eggplant and peppers. I even have my first batch of short season corn almost complete. It's gonna be great eating next week!

This was a very dry, sunny spring here which helped in getting the early crop. But it was colder than normal so the row covers really helped. I started plants indoors under lights in early to mid March & put them out in early April as soon as the surface soil had thawed.

I harvested a couple garlics last weekend; they are drying in the garage. I think I harvested a little early but was curious to see how big they were. I have more to go. Garlic really takes up more space than it's worth.

The thyme is left from last year, have rosemary too.

I let a pepper plant overwinter, and it had a pepper on it so I tried it. Bitter. It has flowers on it and I'm wondering if any subsequent peppers will be bitter too and I should just pull it.

Green Garlic (leaves). They are getting tough and not sure whether we should keep them for the cloves. I agree it is probably not worthwhile.
Peppers, tomatoes, zicinnis, cucumbers are producing now but the fruits still small.
Yard long beans, winter melons, okras, bitter melons and luffas just start to grow a little with warmer weather.

Peas, lettuce, kale, spring onions, various herbs, green garlic (I can't believe all the garlic blasphemers! Such a small bed keeps us in garlic for the year and we use a lot, how can that not be worth it? ;) ), tatsoi, hon tsai tai, small mustards, turnips, and the new potatoes should be about ready since I see flowers on those plants. Actually, it's been such a funny spring that I think I'm going to get my first cherry tomato before I get my first broccoli. Oh, and I almost left out horseradish.

I didnt do much of a winter/ spring garden so we're in a bit of a low spot right now. Still eat something almost every meal from the gardens but I wish I'd done some better planning.
Right now, we're eating some tomatoes, lots of eggplants, basil (almost eating it as a green!), garlic and garlic chives, jalape�os (these must some sort of cross, they are as hot as our habeneros!), other herbs and feeding bolting chard/lettuce to the chicks. Still have a few lemons that I need to get off the trees and into the freezer.
Waiting on cucumbers, Armenian cucumbers, southern peas, melons, okra, summer and winter squash, habeneros which are all blossoming. Also, the big tomato garden is just now getting ready to start ripening, I figure I'll be canning in 3-4 weeks.

I am zone 6 and picked my first broccoli yesterday. I am still picking edible pod peas but not for much longer. I have been feeding lots of bolting radish, lettuce, spinach, bak choi, etc to the chickens. Part of the reason is temperature but mostly it is because we got 8-1/2 inches of rain in 3 days, and the ground is still too wet. The ground was so wet that some of the onions fell over. They weren't ready to fall over and mature, but they fell anyway.

It has been a strange gardening year and I am leaving the spring season and entering the summer season with a large gap. Normally it seems we just fade out of one and into the other, but not this year. The chickens are eating more from the garden than I am. I have blooms on pepper plants that are far too small to have peppers, and tomato plants that stayed way too wet, way too long.

Looks like I will have about 50 heads of broccoli in the next week but smaller than normal, and the first bulbing onions shouldn't be far behind. Then I have to wait for the summer crops to mature.

P.S. Zones don't mean much.

Hi, new here, and it's great to see so many other people into their gardens.
My lettuce and spinach are done, (chickens are helping with the clean up)but we've been eating on them for a couple of months, turnip greens going gangbusters, harvested my first potatoes, peppers are going crazy, and nibbling on grape tomatoes. Squash are right around the corner.

grrrrr, still raining up here in northern california. Put in the peppers, squash and the like. They do not like all this rain. rain forcasted for all week with a big storm on friday.. I am definitely building a greenhouse over my garden for next year.

SlimeyOkra, your weather sounds much like ours. It's been a VERY dry spring - only had 4/10 of rain so far - which has been very welcome given all the flooding we've had here for the past four years. Some of the farmers around us are finally reclaiming some of their land. :)

We don't really grow greens most years, but have been eating asparagus and rhubarb for over a week now. I'm still putting out transplants, which isn't unusual for early June for us. Tomatoes and peppers and pole beans are the last to go out. I don't do much fussing to get early crops. The peas are up nicely, though. This year was the earliest I've ever gotten them planted!

PS: zones mean a great deal for the purpose intended. They indicate which plants will survive based on minimum temperature of the year.

It is true they only correlate very loosely if at all with when in the year temperature rises or falls and high temps. Another problem with zones is that they vary much more than the zone maps indicate. I am actually z7; 3 miles from me can be z6.5.

We had our first mess of squash for Labor Day. So...good. Also, picked #1 cucumber, followed by #2 and 3 today. I picked some beautiful pole beans this evening. And, then there are the four ripe tomatoes from the plant I very skeptically planted in a pot in early March because it was so warm....Go figure, but don't look a gift horse in the mouth.

I know I'm not in your zone, but the first harvest is so precious and wonderful, just had to share....

Since January I've harvested 95lbs of produce from my garden, mostly in greens (which is a LOT of greens). We are working on the last trash bag full of lettuce, and I think we can pick some zuccini tomorrow which will be the first thing from the summer garden. So hot I have had no tomatoes forming on most of my plants yet (grrrrr).

We've been harvesting quite a bit of sage, cilantro, parsley, lettuce, and green onions lately, and the snap peas just started exploding with ripe peas in the last couple days. Pulled my first carrot today too, just to see how big they were getting. They need more time, but they're going to be awesome when they're bigger! Working on my second round of radishes now, the first planting of them has all been harvested already.

does my hoop house count?? Sowed a medley of salad seeds Feb. 15 covering them with a foot of snow for moisture.On March 15 they srarted popping up. I was able to start harvesting by the first of May. so far I have lettuce, Spinich, Pak Choi, Radish, Rocket, Green onions from sets,and chard from a transplanted indoor pot I grew during the winter. Oh One more thing Radish from outside the hoop and ruhbarb The cold wet spring was the pits, but a real boon for my Spinich and lettuce . MY best year ever for them!

We started eating our bok choy and lettuce which has been a treat, but still waiting on the peas. I see we could do better next year, but not sure how much better without a hoop house or cold frame. Maybe I need to work on that over the winter. Thanks for the inspiration!

My first time growing beets,I don't even like them,so I thought until I roasted these and loved them..

First salad of the year from the garden today -- lettuce, spinach, arugula, cress, turnip greens, fava bean leaves, shallot and onion greens, and garlic scape. What a difference a couple of weeks make! I was afraid the hot spells we've had would ruin the lettuce, but it was very tasty.
