You need to plant LOTS of green beans to have enough to eat, so they're best in a garden or large area planters.

As for the advisability of planting tomatoes in Topsy Turvey's, do a GardenWeb search for the experience of others. Most have not been happy with them when they're planted with most tomatoes. They easily break or burst and fall to the earth after heavy rains with the added weight of mature tomato plants. You CAN grow smaller plants, like peppers or very small dwarf tomatoes (like Red Robins) or cascading flowers in them, though I think they're a lot more trouble than they're worth.

But each to his own. :-)

Agree with Anney. You will have enough trouble just growing a tomato plant in the TT without adding anything else to the planter. And as Anney said - you need LOTS of green bean plants to get more than 1 meal worth.

Don't plant the green beans with tomatoes in the Topsy Turvy container. My advice to you is to go to your local thrift stores and begin scoping them out for containers. Look for giant tubs (like rubbermaid or something similar). I found a ten gallon tub the other day for $2. I drilled lots of holes in the bottom and filled it with dirt. My tomato plant is sitting in the middle. I also planted some swiss chard and beets on either side.

Also, I wouldn't hang up your Topsy Turvy. It'll be way too heavy for one thing. Also, one bad thunderstorm and that will be the end of your Topsy Turvy. I have my strawberry Topsy Turvy planter sitting on a cheap plastic lawn chair. When the weather gets bad, I drag the Topsy Turvy in the house. You will need to water your topsy turvy planter daily, and I have found using a 2-1-1 spray fertilizer has been great as well. You might want to mix some fertilizer granules right into the soil you put inside your TT.

I liked the idea of trying one of these and was told they're a waste of $.
Instead, I drilled a hole in the bottom of a 5 gal bucket and tried the same kind of thing with better results.
I grew a cherry type tomato through the bottom hole and grew some pretty flowers in the top.
It's fun to experiment!
