broom corn substitute

Hi,
I'm interested in making my own brooms to help save money.
Broom corn seeds are sorta expensive , plus I have a short growing season. Broom corn is suppose to take about 110 days.
I would like something more in the 60 days time frame and much cheaper. I live in around many feed corn farms. Does anybody know if cornstalks can be used as a substitute for broom corn?
Is there any thing else I can grow that may work ?
We have swamps here also , so if there is anything in there that may work , please let me know.
I have heard that birch and willow trees branches can be used but they make poor brooms at best.

Hello, I'm a broom maker and have a lot of viable broomcorn seed from last years crop. This is an heirloom variety with lots of color in the bristles and has been dwarfed to be only 6ft tall. This dwarf variety has the same size tassel as its full sized counter part but won't reach the full height of 12 to 15 ft. Its easier to harvest. I'm open to trading for just about anything! FYI it takes about 50 broom corn plants to make one kitchen sweeper! One pound of seed is enough to plant 1/2 an acre. I have several hundred pounds available!! haha, this is true!
