Matching stone border to stone on house??

I just moved and need to redo the current flower bed that is in the front. There isn't a border now, and I would like to add a stone border that is about 12" high so I can bring in a lot of good soil. The problem is that the stone on my house is white, and I'm not a fan of white stone so I don't really want to add more white stone to my yard. Will it look bad if I add a stone for the border that is a different color than what's on the house? I really like the look of the very large stones that are used (no mortar, just large stone, almost boulders) as the edge pieces but just don't know if that will work. The rest of my house is a light cream/pinkish brick which I don't like either. My goal is to make an outstanding looking yard to take away from the brick and stone of the house!

Visit a stone specialty retailer to get some ideas. You will find stone in every size, shape, and color, and possibly a display area of sample landscape uses. The link below is an example located near me.

I would think you could find something to either blend with or accent your home. Stay true to the architectural qualities of your home so the new addition flows visually, even with the color change.

Hi there again, Sorry, I got distracted from flooring subject due to other parts of remodeling specially my kitchen cabinets. It is not easy to make decision about all these expensive stuff which you can't change your mind after you order them. Any ways, today a tile guy came for giving estimate and since I told him about wood inlay with travertine border around it, he suggested using membrane under both wood and travertine surfaces to minimize moisture. I just wanted to check and see if you guys also think this is a good idea and if he does that, can he use thinset on top of it under the travertine to make the travertine and the wood in same level. One more question is that he mentioned first installing wood and then travertine since it is possible to play with edges of travertine to make it more leveled with wood at their border. But I read somewhere in this forum that first we should install travertine and then wood. Which one is the better way? Thanks always for your thoughtful and helpful comments.

Do you have any photos of how you want it to look? I would also worry about the cave effect. We have had a tv ( for movies, not actual tv) over a fireplace in our basement for years but it is a gas FP and therefore the heat can be turned off or down very quickly, unlike a wood fire that burns for hours. If you have a massive Fp I would probably make sure there is a goof layer of heat resistant material above it.

Outdoor kitchen-match it to stucco of house or use another stone?

We're in the process of building our home and deciding/planning our outdoor kitchen. Our home is modern and white stucco. Our builder suggested white austin stone for the outdoor kitchen. We do not have stone anywhere else in the house. If you have a stucco home and outdoor kitchen, what material did you use to build your outdoor kitchen? I'm leaning towards having it stucco as well to match the house but husband like the austin stone idea. I'm afraid it will look weird that the outdoor kitchen is different from the rest of the house.

What do YOU want? That's all that really matters. The solid border makes a more definite division between paving and plants, the unbordered version blends in better. HOWEVER - I like having a visually distinct separator wherever there are steps so you and your guests don't miss the steps and faceplant. Don't camouflage steps!
