This is probably too late, but.... Honestly? If you don't put in a prep sink either on the island or peninsula, you will have a lot of wasted/unused counterspace and very little truly functional prep space. Prep Zones usually end up where there's a water source first and near the range or cooktop second...no matter what you plan for! Access to water is very important when considering the placement of your Prep Zone (or where it will end up!) In your case, if you don't have a prep sink, your Prep Zone will end up in one of two places...either to the right of the refrigerator and the cook & cleanup person will be vying not only for the sink but also for floor space and far from the range ...OR... b/w the sink and range where the cook will have to contend w/prepping in front of the DW and, again, vying for sink and work space w/the person cleaning up...but in this case the cook will also be dodging an open DW door on occasion. What's the best place? I could argue for either the island or the peninsula... If you want to prep on the island, then the island is the better location. However, if you're OK prepping on the peninsula and to the right of the range, then I think I like the corner prep sink idea on the peninsula...although it might be far from the trash pullout. But, you could put in a 12" trash-only pullout in the Cleanup Zone and an 18" 2-bin trash + recycle pullout either at the peninsula end of the island or next to the range on the right. (This setup would work well even if the Prep Sink is in the island, btw.) In the interests of full disclosure, I have to admit to a bias toward the corner prep sink as that's what I have and it works great...I can prep on either side of it (next to my cooktop or on the peninsula) and have easy access to my cooktop from either Prep Zone. The only difference, though, is the refrigerator location...and this could be a biggie, depending on how you work...mine is across from the peninsula and, therefore, close to both Prep Zones and the Cooking Zone. In your case, you have the refrigerator pretty far from both, regardless of where you put your Prep Zone...but the island would be closer. Measurements/fitting a prep sink in the island: 90" wide island - 1.5" of overhang - 18" for prep sink = 70.5" of workspace...that's almost 6 feet! Seating...You show 4 stools...but if you have "legs" on your island you will not be able to fit 4 people comfortably in that space. You need 24" per seat of linear space...so each seat takes up 24". With 4 seats, you need 96"...and you only have 90". Without the legs I think 90" would be OK for 4 seats, but not if you have legs. Assuming the legs are 3" wide, that means you're now down to 84"...12" short of what you need (2 legs x 3" = 6", so 90" - 6" = 84"). On top of that, with legs it will be more difficult to get in/out of the end seats, especially with such tight seating space. Seating overhang...I'm...
