I'm going to try transplanting corn this year

I know it seems late for a lot of folks, but here in NE WA at 2,200 ft, it's still way too early. I used to plant on MOther's Day, covering the corn with clear plastic. It was up within a week, then I'd use slitted plastic row covers until the corn grew into the vents by late June. By then, I usually missed the frosts. And no one could believe I had corn ripe by early Aug.

This year I'm going to make the same bottomless newspaper tubes I use for starting my other seeds, but instead of 2" high cells, I'll make them 4" tall. With the kids grown and gone, we don't need a large planting any more, so I thought I'd give this a try.

Any idea how tall I can let the corn grow before transplanting? I'm thinking I can let it grow a month in my greenhouse before moving it outside.
