A lesson in patience ...

I direct sowed bush beans, runner beans, cucumbers, peppers, onion, carrots, pumpkins and marigolds on the 17th. The seed packets listed various germination times, ranging from 5 - 10 days, to 7 - 14 days. On the fourth day the weather turned cold and wet, so when I still had no germination on anything on day 8, I panicked and bought a few pepper transplants yesterday. This morning I checked the veggie patch, and there is a cucumber sprout, and a few marigolds. So should I plant the pepper plants in containers and wait and see if any of the peppers show up? If so, how long do you guys usually wait before you resow or buy plants?
