My advice, keep the peas. They seem to be doing quite well. Moving them would be a fiasco. When the peas are finished there will likely be time to grow something else in that area. Lots of Fall crops will grow nicely where peas have finished growing. Save the beans for next year. I know you'd rather have beans, but this is where you find yourself now.
What about growing beans where the peas were eaten by deer?

I suppose I could do bush beans when the peas are done and forget the trellis entirely, because I know they don't take as long, but I do love my pole beans. I grow them every year and the neighbors love them too, since I usually have enough to share. The space where the deer ate the other peas doesn't really have a support tall enough for the pole beans, but I could rig something I suppose. Of course, there's still the deer issue. That space is actually a clothesline pole (abandoned) in my yard, while the garden area is closer to the house and the critters think that middle of the yard area is their own private buffet.

Perhaps I'll try both? Plant beans where the deer ate the peas and down among the peas in the garden area. That way I'll get them somewhere - and maybe more than I need.

I love my green beans, but I certainly wouldn't give up those peas for them. Pole beans are better, but bush are better than nothing. If nothing else, I'd use 5 gallon containers to plant bush beans all over the place if I had no place to get them in the ground. How about a couple of bean teepees? The poles are inexpensive and they are attractive.

What about growing the beans in a container? Make a bamboo teepee over the container and let them grow!!!! -cass

I've gotta say I hope everyone here is worried about nothing... because I planted several kinds of beans at the base of my snap pea teepees! I put them in a loose, larger ring around the peas plants at each stake. So far, my peas are several feet tall but not producing yet, while the beans are just showing true leaves. I figure by the time the beans get huge, the peas (if still producing by then) will appreciate some cooling shade from the summer sun. So I'm hoping it'll all work out.

Maybe do the pole beans like you planned, but just less of them? And plant them a little bit south of your trellis support, so they'll have their own growing space and can shade the peas as they grow, rather than the other way around?

I'm wondering how early your frost comes- I am not planning on starting my beans for almost another month, and yet I begin harvesting beans towards the middle of August. Beans really prefer warm temperatures and germinate really FAST in June here... might they do the same for you? I have to succession plant my warm weather crops after my cool weather crops because I have a very small garden. And I can do this because of our long-ish growing season, so I realize this approach might not work in other areas. But depending on where in MO you are, maybe it could work for you too? Oh, and I always grow pole beans, like you!

Thanks folks. I think I've decided to plant the beans around the peas and see what happens. I'm hopeing that there will be enough sun to get them to grow...heck, it doesn't stop the weeds! When the peas FINALLY finish, I'll carefully cut them off at the ground and let the beans take over and if it doesn't work, well, I've always wanted to grow those purple-hull bush beans!
