I had a good year with German Red, I keep about 50 around just in case I change my mind and want to grow them again. I doubt that will ever happen since they are a roc and I hate growing the rocs. But, I have some nice ones if you change your mind. I have 1600 Nootka Rose, this was an odd year in that 40% sent up a scape which ruined the bulb. In four years i've never seen that happen. I have a some Korean also...it should have a lot of red in the wrapper. you would know if you mixed the Korean with Music or German White...they are very different. I bought seed from Richters. They are located in Canada, but the shipping is very reasonable. They also sell Good King Henry plants. The Good King Henry I know (Chenopodium bonus-henricusis) is not a Kale, but is sometimes called a spinach substitute. Alex

I sometimes add a small amount of peat moss or a peat moss based potting soil to pine bark fines, but only for dormant cuttings that won't be misted and only if the pbf looks too fresh to hold sufficient moisture on its own. I use it straight in the misting bed, usually, unless the last place I shopped for the stuff was the local nursery that stocks it only in the form of a landscaping mix containing additives. The mix I've used most often is predominantly pbf with small amounts of perlite and sand (which ends up at the bottom of the bag) and an almost undetectable amount of peat moss. It works about as well in the misting bed as the pure pbf sold as soil conditioner, it's just more expensive and unnecessary. Are you potting up rooted cuttings in pbf? I haven't been doing that, though I've used tons of the stuff as a soil conditioner in my beds.

Nice going Brian. Please do take some pictures of the 5 gallon when you get a chance. Mine took off but then suddenly stop. I don't have automatic watering. I think problem is with space and watering. I am not sure if you are setting to water in the middle of the day when they need the most water or not, but I find by the time I get home, I need to refill it completely. Maybe get the slowless drip possible and set it to water a few hours between 1-3 pm ??? I am going to the bbq/tomato festival in 3 weeks. It should be fun.
