pnbrown - Egyptian Onions - How long before large underground bul

pnbrown sent me some small bulbs and one very large bulb, almost the size of an onion, a couple of years ago. I promised I would report back about how they do in Texas.

So far so great! They do not die back in the heat or the cold. This past winter is the coldest we've had on record in 20 years. It even snowed for one WHOLE day! That never happens. Anyway, they've survived all the yoyos our weather has to dish out. They are forming topsets right now.

I've only dug up a couple of plants to see how large the bulb underground is, and none are very large (maybe as big around as a quarter, no larger). How long do they need to grow before you get a good underground onion? Is that just an unusual thing? Or do I need to add more p and/or k?
