Mary Mary - ;o) That's a small pot.

I overwinter under lights in zone 5. I would site it in a warm, bright spot & make sure you do not over-water. I have also had good luck setting the plant on the basement floor where it receives a little light from my other plants I grow under lights and remains cool and very dry. I give it a little water about once a month, but your container size & what it's made of would have a bearing on frequency of watering.

If you keep it cool & dry, no fertilizer would be necessary. If you expose it to good light & keep it warm, a monthly feeding of a solution containing tomato fertilizer or another blend with a low first number is a good choice. If you pot-up to a larger container before winter, you'll likely need to fertilize less frequently. The reason I suggested monthly is because of the very small container.

I would definately put it in a larger pot but be careful because they hate replanting, actually any interference whatsoever, including pruning. Wait till the bloom is over and let it dry out completely and don't disturb the soil around the root ball when repotting. They like poor soils and don't like fertilizer at all and while they don't like too much water, I find one of mine in a pot needs it more than I would have expected. I've noticed that the dead branches tend to be red and snap easily. Mine keep their leaves in winter but I live in Greece...

If you'd like to see a picture of a tiny plant growing in a truly tiny container, send me an e-mail & I'll reply with a photo. I have a Portulacaria afra (mini jade) growing in a Quercus alba (white oak) acorn cap. ;o)

There are bonsai practitioners that specialize in growing only the tiniest of bonsai called "mame" size. The pots are very tiny, some being as small as a sewing thimble.
