Have you been to your Lawn and Garden show yet?

Our local Lawn and Garden show is this weekend. We are going in the morning.

Wonder what wonderful things I'll find.

its always nice to get a taste of spring at the garden show. I went with a wish list of 4 special flowers and 4 veggie/herbs. I was a bit disapointed. Only found 1 veggie and 1 herb. There werent as many seed vendors this year. I did get another pair of my favorite gardening gloves though :)
I hope others are enjoying a hint of spring at their garden show.

in topeka? we went last year, we didn't get to go this year. last year i wanted to see the how they were using straw bales to make garden beds, but we didn't make it in time. LOL that was way awesome on the gloves!! where are you from in ks? i live just south of topeka.

Well what a great report from you, pitimpinai!! The last I heard you were still very low in energy and still on a ton of medication and little appetite, and listen to you, helping the neighbor till up a lawn! LOL What a nice neighbor you were to plant tomatoes and Dahlias. :-) I am happy to hear that you've also benefited from a shorter work day. Great that you had all that time off saved up. I bet you really needed it to get your energy back. We have gotten pretty much back to what is normal for us here. The weather has been stupendous in the past month! I have never seen the cover crop in the veggie beds so high. We've also gotten all the leaves mowed and collected in bins, ours and three neighbors. [g] We have gotten somewhat cleaned up for the year in the garden, but I keep adding to my list of what I want to get done before the weather turns. Still have a small amount of bulbs to plant and three shrubs to get in the ground, some pots to clean and put away and that will just about do it. I am actually looking forward to a break from the garden. Not that we don't get outside and enjoy it, but it's nice this time of year, to focus on other things. During the gardening season, the garden seems to push out other priorities. [g] I enjoy the winter garden and by the time spring comes, I am just itching to get back to a new growing season. Glad you are able to enjoy gardening again and hope you stay well this winter! :-)

muktowngal... Thank you (and others) for your complements. I think I'm around 480 varieties... a few duplicates, but still, under 500 total. The large garden in the panorama has most of the varieties in it... around 400. The neighbor...they moved in a year before us and the previous owners left them a few hosta. That S&S in the pic was a puny 1-eye and was not doing well. It's grown so much in the 5 years since we've been here. Almost all of their others were added around 2008-09. I gave them the Royal Standards in that pic, and a few others that are not in the photo. I plan to thin out a few of my duplicates and will probably give them some more, since they're willing takers! Both my neighbors are good about keeping a nice landscape and I'm thankful for that. My rear neighbor... not so much.

Hi gldnol, Yes should be good seminars. hristie_sw_mo did do online research but some of it's conflicting. And, since she got her plants from me a few seasons ago, she thought it best to ask me directly. *wink* Generally though, I do usually direct people to the Missouri University Extension Agricultural Publications as well as Ohio State University's Home and Garden Publications for any gardening related question. There are many more excellent opportunities to learn at these Sustainable Garden Seminars. Looks like there are over 50 people signed up for many of them so there's good interest out there. Many of them are free if you just call to register. It's always nice to be around other gardeners and I always pick up some tidbits I can use in my own gardening.

They must've remembered from last year Vickie. I believe they return to the same spot every year. I bought a few plants for the hummingbirds. Orchlein's in Republic had hanging baskets of red verbena on sale for $7.50. I got one for my mother and one for myself. Wal-Mart and Lowe's in north Spfd both had annual red salvia on clearance so I got a couple six packs of that too. I couldn't find any 'Lady in Red' like I got there last year. I think they like it better than the common salvia splendens that they always have. Hoping they'll get some in later. If anyone sees 'Black and Blue' anywhere, let me know. I'd like to get one of those. Lowe's had it last year but they were out already when I checked.

We live in the SW area. I didnt see the straw bale demo either.
The gloves are ATLAS Nitrile Touch. They contour to your fingers and with the nitrile on the fingers and palm you get wonderful dexterity...not bulky like most gardening gloves. The back breaths nicely and they last forever. I dont go into the garden without them.
Each year my sweetie asks what I wanna do for my birthday and each year I tell him...'take me to the garden show' haha

There are no 'big' Lawn and Garden Shows near here, but there will be some sort of a local gardening show here sometime in April that I'd like to attend, if there is no scheduling conflict.

I do however plan to attend 2 or maybe more Daffodil Shows, as that is my addiction. I plan to have exhibits in the 2 Indiana shows and possibly others too.

Is anyone planning to attend a Daffodil Show or Festival?

The first event was in CA February 25th-27th so it is already over.

Daffodil Shows and Festivals will continue across the US until the last one is held May 14-15, in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

If anyone is planning to attend the shows in IN, maybe I will see you there. Any daffodil lovers?

Oh Sue, I didnt know you were into daffodils. I just love them! I've planted over 1,000 bulbs since moving here nearly 10 years ago (mostly daffs). I try to plant them so I have something blooming in each bed front of the house all spring. Last year a neighbor gave me the type that has several blooms on one stem. Dont remember what type that is. They are tiny and their blooms seem to last longer than other varieties.

What sort of exhibits are you doing?? I'm just a novice and wish we had a show here.
