Pretty cool! Yeah, that happens. I have the same thing happening on a different Haworthia. I've been letting mine develop before I pop it off. You can cut the rest of the stem off and let it keep growing for a while, best to let it get to a nice size first since it will grow much faster connected. You shouldn't have any trouble rooting it.

Will it heal? No, in as much as the damaged part won't revert back to what it did look like, only new growths from now on will appear undamaged, but only if you find out what's gone wrong and remedy it. What is it planted in soil mix wise? Pot wise too...are there drainage holes? It's planted way too deep inside that container, soil needs only to be 1/2inch or so below the rim,it's creating humidity and shade.looks like it could be rotting from overwatering, need more info on position in relation to light source/sun, watering regime, feeding? ......and most importantly your own location, it could be trying to survive in the Arctic or the tropics for all we know!
