I have several of these that came up under and around the tree in my yard. Will trade if you have something I want or will do for postage.

I have lots of sassafras trees, all sizes. I am looking for pastel blue, pink, yellow,or lavender iris. Or pastel bi-colors. Or a very deep red iris. Also, a fragrant flowering wisteria. Mine has been planted for at least five years and has never flowered :( I am in MO and if anything can live here, I'm sure it would be fine or even better in any other state. This is the hardest place in the country to grow much of anything. I have river birch but don't know what sweet birch is.

Hello Barb. I would like some sassafras seeds, but I don't have much to trade that you don't already have. I have an unknown species of perennial poppy--blooms about 18-24" tall, foliage half that height, soft orange flowers. Will soon have Iris chrysographes seeds--the pods are ripening. For sassafras seeds, I'd be willing to trade 1-year seedlings of Nyssa sylvatica (black tupelo), American bladdernut, or Magnolia macrophylla (cucumber tree). Mike

Ditto I have read that it is very difficult to transplant suckers from this tree. Apparently They fail to establish when separated from the parent tree. There are a couple small Sassafras groves in a nearby woodland, and I would have like to transplant a couple, but fear that the suckers would not survive. William Cullina says this about the tree on his website: "Sassafras root sprouts are difficult to transplant, giving the tree an undeservedly difficult reputation. Seedlings are easily moved and they grow quickly and easily in well-drained soils and at least 4 hours of sun. " Here is a link that might be useful: Sassafras albidum
