I'm looking for a couple small trades of species tulips for other specie tulips.

I have Tulipa bakeri Lilac Wonder

and

Tulipa saxatilis

I'd like small trades of maybe 5-10 bulbs and am open to other spring blooming hardy bulbs too.

Hi Melinda,

I am mainly looking for the Species because they are supposedly more perennial then so many other varieties.

I do know there are numerous others that are specially bred to be more perennial than others, but 'most' tulips just don't do much here beyond their first good year of bloom.

About Perennial Tulips

and

More tulips that are 'supposed to be' perennials.

Might you have any of those from the link above or below? I don't need any Darwin Pink, red, or yellow, as I have those already. Might you have any other named hardy spring bulbs?

Sue, I will be happy to bring you some, Well, I would be thrilled if you would bring me some. They were probably planted somewhere from 40 years ago to 150 years ago YIKES! They have likely multiplied so many times that the bulbs are just way too crowded and small to bloom. You may have hundreds or thousands of small bulbs, too small to bloom. Also, I do get a few blooms up by the house, the squirrels may have moved them, Yes, my guess is that they maybe did a little dividing of them for you...thus a few blooms. I'm off to email you about what else I can bring to the swap for you and your shade beds. I acquired something new and cool from the wild that you might like a start of! Sue

Little Beauty has done well for me too. One year I planted some hybrid tulips and some T. praestans unicum, a beautiful red with wide variegated leaves. Squirrels came and ate all the regular tulips, but they only dug up one T. praestans, and dropped it in the next bed, where it lay all winter and went on to bloom the next spring sitting on top of the ground! T. batalinii Red Gem has been pretty, but surprisingly I like Bright Gem better because it has multiplied better, so there are several blooms from each bulb. Has anyone grown T. vvedenskyi Tangerine Beauty? It looks intriguing.

Lilac wonder looks too pastel and subtle for there. I don't know how anyone could resist those little beauties, sticking in a few here and there...like under a hosta. I'm proud of ya Kato! Way to throw restraint to the wind. I wonder if there will be anything left by the time I have everything planted. Luckily I won't be out and about and passing any bulb displays in the next week or so. Oh, I see 15 tulipa linifolia is a specie tulip. What a great score. I'll need 3-5 of those sometime in the future...hear? even if it is 2010. I just gave 2 small bags of Tete-a-Tete to my neighbor, knowing I already had 2 well established clumps. I'll be sorting out other things too (I think) that are doubles, in the hope of lightening my planting load a little. I borrowed a bulb auger from a neighbor, and now he has offered his 1/2 cordless drill too, so I won't have to string an extension cord when using my drill. Planting the named daff cultivars is still time consuming, planting them in straight rows, carefully spaced apart as well as carefully spaced in the holes, and with both above and below ground markers. Having OCD (being anal) is certainly making it slow going in getting all of these daffs planted. I'm rearing to go today though, and off to print up some more labels. I just fell in love with these this season. I am wondering if anyone has any to trade. This would be to trade sometime a little later. I am not looking for any 'mixes' of them. I prefer named ones, but would consider no named ones if you had a pic of them in your garden. I would like to trade some daffs and it will be probably sometime in June b4 the foliage will be good and yellowed, and I will have the time to dig/trade. I have numerous daffs (not listed for trade on my trade list)...some named, and some with ID. I can/will provide pics (at a later date)of all that are available for trade. I have several trades of 'other' things in the works, so I am just wanting to get something started on this b4 the species tulips maybe loose their foliage and cannot be found. Here is a link to some of the No ID Daffs...some available and some not...I put the pics up there due to one big trade I am working on now. On that same forum is another post that shows pics of some of the named ones I may have available for trade too. Anyone have any? Anyone interested in starting to line out a trade? Very interesting! Was not aware of that and enjoyed reading about them! I don't have any of those! Wish I did.

Hello everyone, I agree that the specie tulips are more perennial. I have had my Eastern Star Specie Tulips for 6 years, they have multiplied and bloomed for me year after year.

Oh Lila,

Those are so sweet. Maybe we could work a trade again next year, if I have any bulbs of interest to you. It is something we'd both have to remember at the 'proper' digging time.

I didn't get your Lilac Wonders out yesterday, but they are packed to go out today, along with a surprise goodie I know you don't have, yet need.

Maybe it would be best to post for species tulips earlier in the year, when it is the correct time to dig them, think?

I'm going to email you now about a possible 2010 bulb trade

Lila, we have never traded before, but hopefully next spring if I have anything of interest to you, we can arrange a trade. Sue and I are trading buddies (I plan to send her the tulips pictured above next spring).

I love the color of Lila's, but especially love, love, love the foliage on yours paddlehikeva.

Yes, paddlehike is my GW cyber daffodil enabler addicted friend. Who else would send you a list of 60 named cultivars their Daff Soc has for sale and offer to order some on my behalf? Of course I did the same thing for her, but she held strong in not overdoing her ordering, with me anyway.

HollandBulbFarm has some spieses tulips on sale this weekend-- just through Monday. I planted some of these last Fall and they were very nice.
