Comments (11)I agree with the previous posters. The faux wood garage doors would look nice. I LOVE your front door, very classy! I notice you have 2 large urns you could place on the driveway near the garage doors to add depth and color, I'd use black urns with bright flower colors if you keep the doors, taupe or white if you change them. Same goes for widening your flower area along the driveway and give it some curve. You could add something that stays green in the winter since you get snow in Chicago. Try adding something between your daylilies, every 2nd one put in a shrub that has great fall color and summer flowers to compliment the color of the daylilies : ) You could add a mounded & curved bed to the left (in the open grass space) with a taller flowering tree/shrub and some perennials that flower at different stages. A dogwood or ninebark in the corner near the front window and entrance would look nice since they have nice winter color, great summer green and pretty fall leaves : ) Does the tree at the end corner have flowers, berries or interesting leaves? It seems to have some good height. Do you like clematis? That would look nice on that corner too, both sides. Your house and yard are great! A bit of curves and color is all it should take....See MorePlease help me with my dated brick ranch
Comments (49)Sherry, I know! the brick no longer looks orange and weird to me. We didn't even consider painting the brick. We bought a four-sides brick house so it would be lower maintenance. The trim painting really did the trick as far as making the brick, porch, and roof all blend together better. It really is surprising how just changing that one color seemed to change all of the different colors....See MoreAdvice on trim/door color to jazz up light orange brick cape cod

Comments (19)I have no experience with the Proform system which appears to be pretty new. I'd check on Hearth.com for further information and opinions. I did have a Supaflu liner installed more than 20 years ago which has performed extremely well without any problems at all. Others, however, have apparently experienced serious deterioration which may be due to improper mixing of the liner material. A cursory look at the Proform website shows that the liner is installed then inflated and cured with steam. This is different from Supaflu which pumps a semiliquid slurry around an inflated former. The material strengthens the interior of the chimney because it makes its way into any voids in the mortar and becomes firmly attached to the brick from bottom to top. I don't think this happens with Proform. I also don't think it's really possible to pour a true footer from within the chimney. Footers should be wider than the chimney and support its weight from below. Stuccoing (parging?) the interior would also be very difficult. Using this method on the exterior would be possible, but would not be, in my opinion, as secure as repointing the brick. Proform may be an excellent lining system, but doesn't seem to really do much for rebuilding and restoring your chimney. Rebuilding brick by brick, then using a stainless liner, which are fine, seems a better option to me....See Moremjsee
