little worms on my radishes

I picked some baby radishes today... this is my first time growing them. I found little worms- they look like little tiny snails with no shells- baby slugs maybe... about a millimeter long crawling on my radishes. It was kinda gross. I know beetles and things crawl on my tomatoes, peppers, and squashes... but these were gross. What are they- and can I still eat my radishes? There are little imperfections all over the radishes- I can only assume from where I was sharing them with these little worms. Thanks for any help!

Baby slugs is the best bet. Scrub 'em, cut off the worst spots, and eat them. The radishes not the slugs. ;)

Assuming they are grubs I wouldn't bother treating for them in the garden. Turning over the soil effectively killed a lot of them and if you repeat the turning in the spring you will largely take care of them. If anything, treat for grubs outside the garden where the soil isn't disturbed. The other issue in treating for grubs is that timing is critical with most products so you need to positively ID the pest and research the best time for various products in your area. Using anything at the wrong time will just waste money. Also, the manufacturer specifically states to not use the product in veggy gardens so you would need a different solution.

Not easy. Some things to try, but all basically cut down the numbers as opposed to an instant cure. - Smaller feedings, or give them a break from feeding altogether (have bedding they can munch on though). Also freeze (then thaw) feedings before adding so they get processed faster. Worst thing is food hanging around for weeks. - Bury the feedings under some VC. Doesn't have to be that deep as long as it covers everything, just don't want it open air. Loose shirt might not work unless it's really tight, loosely on top doesn't really count as if there's any gaps they can crawl in easily. - If they are coming from the top tray, try a mesh lid. Fine mesh overtop instead of the plastic one, held in place with bungie cord. Seals better than the plastic lid (at least the lids I've seen). Also stops the wife from seeing them flying around :). You can then lift up a corner and stick a vacuum inside without letting them all out (as the plastic lid would). Tap it around a bit to get the suckers to fly up and into the vacuum of death. You can do that daily to make sure they don't get old enough to lay more eggs. With time you can drastically reduce the numbers flying around.

Your mite could well be the maggot of the Sciarid Fly. Lots of minute maggots (legless with black heads)which develop into a small fly or gnat (at first glance looks like a small flying ant). The maggot is a mennace because they feed on the fine roots of plants. The fly (or gnat) lays eggs in compost rich in manure that has not reached high heats. It also thrives in an acid environment so use some doomite lime in compost.

I got actual worms in the radishes in my salad bed =(. I cut away the affected area, sliced them thin (inspected them) then didn't tell my adult kids LOL
Should I plant radishes in the same planter or forget them for now? I also have several lettuces in there that loook fine. NT

Slugs can easily be washed off in the garden with a hose. If you do it indoors, the slugs crawl all over the place! LOL

Cabbage worm !!. yuck. I ended up eating some of those nasty things the first year I grew radishes. I have not grown another radish since. YUCK !!!
I wouldn't even bother trying to cut out the bad parts cuz they will be ALL THROUGHOUT every one of them.

Cabbage root maggots are the larvae of a small fly which lays eggs on the stems of the plant. When the eggs hatch, the larvae go into the soil and feed on the roots.

Floating row cover keeps the flies off the plants, preventing them from laying eggs there. Of course, if there still are larvae in the soil, those can hatch, resulting in flies under the row cover. I'll leave it to you to decide what to do.
