Have Yellow Daylillies: Want almost any perenial for zone 5

I have some yellow dayliiles I would like to trade. I am in need of some more pink in the garden.

I will take any pink, purple/blue or yellow perennial that grows in zone 5 (except more daylilies)

I also have a picture for you. I hope the link works :)

By the way I trade a good size plants. usually at least flat rate box full....

I have 2 perennials you might want. Helianthus multiflorus, which is a perennial sunflower, but NOT the annual type, yellow, and does spread. It is about 2" in diameter, and fully double. and I believe the other is Rudbeckia.

I would like some of your daylillies. I have red with yellow eyes that are antique and beautiful. The ones I have were registered but are no longer in cultivation. I am in the process of digging and dividing now. If you are interested, I also have buckeye (pink blooming) and eve's necklace seeds. Both are native US, hardy and provide beautiful pink blooms in the spring.

Morden Man makes a great point about climbers in zone 5 and colder, that if they're not mostly cane hardy (meaning little dieback in the winter) they're not likely to grow tall enough to climb and bloom in your zone. In my yard, I can vouch for Teasing Georgia as reliably cane hardy not only in zone 5 sections of my yard, but my zone 4 pocket as well on the east side of my house. That rose is one of the few roses listed that meets your secondary criterion of scent, since not many zone 5 hardy climbers are scented, and in fact scent is often sacrificed for hardiness as in many Kordes roses. You might ask others in your zone (like Seil or Mordenman) about disease resistance, since you're much more humid than I am, given the extent to which lots of disease can affect winter survival. i also have Casino growing in my yard and it has survived well, and being a descendent of New Dawn I have high hopes for vigor and hardiness in my zone. Another rose you might consider is Lunar Mist, which is a lemon yellow fluffy Romantica that is on its fourth year in my yard (mine is grafted from Regans). Mine mingles freely with my yellow Puerta del Sol (very hardy but may not be available currently) and Apricot Sky (mostly yellow, own root from Roses Unlimited), so it's a little hard to tell how vigorously it blooms, but I think Lunar Mist has some fragrance as well. It's great to hear that Goldregen survives well in our zone, nastarana, since I planted that one last year from Vintage. My Roberta Bondar hasn't wanted to be more than a large shrub, but it's still young. I have high hopes for my third try at Goldstern that hasn't gotten established in my summers yet, but should survive the winters. Autumn Sunset also does very well for me, and I ought to try Leverkusen as it has had great reviews consistently on GW. Fortunately being zone 5 you have many options for climbers that aren't available even one zone colder, so you can see what suits you among the choices. Cynthia

Wanted: Mean, vicious, nasty rose for zone 5/6

It's in an alley along a fence. You want something vicious that requires very little maintenance and is disease free. But unless you want to be bothered with quite a bit of pruning (which won't be fun) and tying up to the fence (which won't be fun either) I would stay away from the ramblers such as New Dawn, Dr. W. van Fleet, Alberic barbier, etc. These will climb, but left on their own will also sprawl all over, including the alley. I would use something that will stand up on its own without a lot of help and can just be sheared back from the alley when necessary--eglantyne, rugosa, and a number of others mentioned here should do fine. One also has to consider the quality of soil in an alley -- likely not the greatest. We assume you have sun, but sweet briars will do fine in considerable shade. A modern rose that will keep blooming, stand-up on its own, and is quite thorny,large and tall, over six feet, is Austin's The Pilgram, a yellow rose, that some think to be the most handsome and best of all the Austin roses, but alas it won't be as bullet proof as the sweet briars or rugosas, will require more water during droughty periods, and can get a little blackspot. It also requires more fertilizer to be at its best. I'd stick with the species and near species roses.

I like grasses. I have two Miscanthus and one smaller growing type of switchgrass. I had a really tall big clump of another switchgrass which I dug out and discarded because it just did not look good in my garden. Bad placement but I had no other place for it. I had some other grasses (prairie dropseed and little bluestem) but those died out and I have not replaced them. Honestly now that I have all these shrubs, I could not immagine the yard with out them. I wanted them to attract the backyard songbirds with fruit and cover and also for screening to block my neighbors driveway. The Catbirds and House Wrens moved in after the shrubs started getting some size on them so my plan worked out well. Also, after I started reading what I wrote for this thread, I realize I have more different types of perrenials than I thought I did. I think my problem is that unless I have a massive amount of it, I don't seem to think it counts.

Hi, thanks for the reply -- here is my list of the roses I've ordered (it's a lot!!). Asked the question because I noticed after I ordered them that some say zone 6. I'd like to keep them in the ground if possible, with mulch, etc. Any help on any of these -- how to help them, will be appreciated. Thanks! Sorry, I should have been more specific. I am trying to remove all my daylilies and don't want more.
If you have another perennial I would be glad to trade. My whole neighborhood was planted with Daylilies by the builders and I like to be different so I want none in my yard.

I have a number of perennials you may be interested in, but many are in seeds: buckeyes (scarlet and Texas); eve
s necklace; purple coneflower; gaillardia (red and yellow), as well as multiple native grasses (stripa, inland sea oats) and salvias (autumn, gregii, and madrensis).

I also have multiple natchez crepes seedlings potted, as wll as severl vitex. In a month, the salvia madrensis will be in a good state to ship.

I have plenty to room for many more daylilies and I find that they work very well intermixed with the orange (fulva). All are welcome, and I will trade comparable.

txaggiegirl, I have some of the seeds you mention. I just don't have a lot of room to grow the plants. So I am mostly looking for plant trades for the yellow daylilies. I would like the ones you mentioned if they were plants (like the gaillardia and Autumn Salvia)
